Being released from consultant led care?

Hi. I was referred to consultant led at my booking in appointment because of treatment on my cervix. Consultant appointment lasted all of 2 minutes and went along lines of really nice to meet you but you've no need to be consultant led and the treatment has no impact on pregnancy or labour. So far so good.

At 28 weeks appointment today however midwife has no record of this so officially my notes still say I'm consultant led. Worried I'll get to term and be turned away from midwife led unit. Anyone else been transferred back to midwives, and how was it formalised? TIA x

I was put back to midwife led care at 34 weeks, it was written in my maternity notes. It is your midwife that has to do the referral to the midwife led unit. She will risk assess you herself and them send the referral

Thanks. Will raise it again at next appt. consultant has written in my notes but the midwife yesterday couldn't actually understand what he'd written (in handwiring terms not medical)!

I've been seeing a consultant for no apparent reason (long story!) and they said that the MW refers you for a birth centre assessment so shouldn't be a problem

Not being able to read consultant handwriting is par for the course! Can you read what it says? You should have a risk assessment for the birth centre at 36/37 weeks anyway but you definitely want it documented clearly somewhere that you've been discharged from consultant-led care!

I didn't know this. I had a couple of consultant appointments but haven't been given any follow up so who discharges me? The MW? Last time I saw the consultant she kindly asked me why I was there as she couldn't work it out!

I too was 'sent' to a consultant for no real reason, and declined any further consultant care. I asked how they would inform my midwife and spthey said they would email/letter, i also made sure she wrote in my notes 'declined consultant care, referred back to mw care'

They still havent sent a letter, so i will be chasing with the clinic i was referred to.

I think i would call the clinic if i were you, it must be in your notes

Thanks for all the replies. As you've all said I definitely want it formalising I've been discharged from consultant led so will see if someone from clinic can sort out a letter or email to the midwife who referred me.
