waxing for labour

Hi all, sorry if this has been asked a million times. Do you recommend getting waxed for labour? I have a lot of hair that goes right back around bum area (sorry that's gross). It's my first pregnancy and don't know what the norm is. I would think it would be great while it's all gone but would the regrowth be uncomfortable especially if I tear or get stitches?

Not gross at all. Or if it is I'm really going to upset some people when I pop.

I am one hairy mary, no one said a word, gave a look or seemed upset by it during my first labour. I only had a small tear and was washing myself so often after the birth that I didn't really have any issue with the mega-period and having hair.

Fuck the norm, if you want a wax go see a beautician who's done women in late pregnancy before if you don't then leave it.

No one will care - really.

If you get stitches you'll REALLY not enjoy regrowth.

Honestly, hair is nothing - you really don't need to worry.

I ate a large seafood pizza the night before I gave birth - THAT caused a more awkward situation.

You have no more or less hair than any other woman in their natural state, and the midwives have seen it all before. No-one will care. Please don't wax.

Yes leave it be, if you're not used to waxing there it will be more of a problem for you after and skin is more sensitive during pregnancy so it might be quite sore once you've done it. I couldn't do much in terms of tidying towards the end with my first and as I couldn't see what it was like really didn't care and will be the same this time round.
Once in labour you're not going to even think about it and nor are the midwives.

It was as recently as the 1980s when women won the campaign to stop depilation being a routine procedure in labour.

There is no medical reason whatsoever to depilate, and indeed such evidence as exists suggests additional risk (infections through mini-abrasions, discomfort of regrowth with stitches) though, like men are recommended to shave chest hair before thoracic surgery, it's worth clearing hair from incision/dressing site if you know you are go having a CSection.

If you do choose to deplilate despite that, then a) do it a week or so before EDD, and b) don't even think of using a method you've not used before. This is not the time to discover it irritates your skin. Also, some people find their skin is more sensitive during pg; if this happens on any part of your body, probably better to leave your minge alone.

You are a woman, women have pubic hair, we were having babies long before waxing!
