Hello. I had a growth scan today as baby's movements had slowed down quite a bit. They have said he weighs 5lb 1 oz and is currently head down. My tummy is 38cm so I knew he would be big. Is this normal or is he large?

I don't know but have you checked your notes? It should say in there or if they have marked the baby on the chart thing in your notes? Mine is on the large side of normal at 36 weeks but not had growth scan yet x

Yes, perfectly fine! We have some ladies on our July group who are 33 weeks and babies are 6lb

Nothing to worry about Smile

The scans aren't particularly accurate. Weight is also not too much of a concern with regards to delivery if that was worrying you. Position and head circumference make the difference.

Growth scans can be 20% out in either direction. DS1 was meant to be 6lb4 at a scan I had at 36 weeks. He was actually 5lb11 when born 3 weeks later. Fwiw DS2 was 5lb3 at 35 weeks and 50th percentile. So your baby is probably not off the scale.

I had a growth scan with my second at 34w, they estimated 6lb 10oz then, she was born at 39+5 and was 8lb 11oz so the scan was about right, they add about 500g a week between 30 & 36w then 250g a week after 36 weeks I think.

Dd1 was 5lb 10oz at 32 weeks according to scan and was born 39 +4 at 8lb 1oz.

Ok thank you my midwife said it was normal. Just a bit worried of how large he will be when he gets here!
