Sorry for all the questions and threads...but I'm going for my first midwife appointment on Tuesday and was wondering what happens at them. Will I find out how far gone I am as I can't work it out. And will i get my first scan too?

Mine just involved taking medical details, talking through the dos and don'ts of pregnancy, and referring me for scans. Took about half an hour or so! Apparently some take blood at that first appointment, but mine didn't want any until the next one.

The booking appointment is a lot of questions - mostly about your health background.

Depending on your area and where the appointment is, you may have bloods taken.

They won't do your scan. That is separate, but they should be able to confirm how you'll get it.

When you say you don't know how far along you are, do you have the date of your last period? They can help you do the dates from that (or google online calculators). If you don't, you'll need to wait for the scan.

I suffer with pcos and my periods are hit and miss. My last one was about mid April and when I done a test that told you how far gone you are it says 3+ weeks which said is about 5-6 weeks gone. But 4 weeks prior to that test the hospital done one and said it was negative so I'm unsure

Ignore those home tests - they are very good at telling you if you are pregnant or not, but very inaccurate at telling you how far along.

They will use the dating scan to give you a due date. Smile

They may want to take a urine sample so don't wee before the appointment (I didn't know this and had to drink 1 and a half of the stubby bottles of evian at the appointment!)

I honestly can't wait to find out how far gone I am. It's killing me not knowing. I was also very shocked with how quick my appointment came through. I called them on the Thursday and had my appointment come through for Tuesday.

I thought they might. Lucky my appointment is mid afternoon so I can go Atleast once before then haha

I think it depends where you're from too, I had my dating scan at booking in appointment. Had bloods and urine samples taken too.

See from when I had my last period I should he like 10 weeks gone so maybe that's why appointment was so quick they're going to do everything in one sitting? I also told them about my other health problems over the phone so that could of helped. Either way I'm excited for Tuesday and can't wait for my first scan
