teenage mom

Hi there, just wondering if any of you are or were teenage moms? My 18 year old has just announced shes pregnant and im totally overwhelmed by the news, i want to help her but right now im so angry . Help please?

I'm 19 and pregnant and have had miscarriages previously to this. Is she's happy I would say be happy for her, she's an adult now and as long as she makes the right decisions for herself I wouldnt worry to much. Obviously you are going to be concerned but you don'twant to push her aaway, how does she feel about it is she happy has she supportive partner, ext?

It is going to be hard for her and she will now need to think of things in terms of herself and baby but does she live with you or on her own ? I've lived in my own place from I was 16 so I'm very ready for this baby I would advice you just talk to her rationally and discuss your concerns and see how shes feeling x

I got pregnant when I was 18 and had my first dc at 19 as a single mum. I'm 36 now and my son is 16 and we've been fine! DS is just doing his GCSEs and predicted excellent grades. I don't even think I counted as a teenage parent in statistics. I had already moved out to go to uni when I was 18 but I finished my degree, got a MSc and a good job and met a new partner. We got a lot of support with housing, benefits etc in the early years but now we are living in our own home with a good income.

What was very important for me to make the progress I did was that my mum gave me a huge amount of support - helping out with childcare and bills and not making criticisms. A lot of people assume that young parents won't do well in life but I think that with the right attitude you can do as well as anyone else, and right now with a lot of my colleagues having to face IVF or going through adoption due to infertility, I'm actually pretty glad I had my DS when I did.

Thank you all, our house is tiny and im here with her two sisters, i honestly dont know how a baby would squeeze in! She is a very very young 18 and only just started socialising with friends, i feel her life as a teenager is just starting. The father is 22 and she works with him, he already has a two year old and is always broke so it just seems doomed from the start. He said he will stand by her decision but wants her to have a termination. She is so flippin head in the clouds about it, i think thats whats upsetting me so much, its like a game. I do know some young moms make excellent parents, i dont dispute that at all. x

I was 13 when I had DS and all I can say is the most important thing is your support!! My mum was mad at ME untill someone took her aside to tell her "they had heard the news" and that her daughter had just been diagnosed with leukaemia and would much rather a pregnant daughter than an Ill daughter!! We only had a small house and my DH just shared with me .... Up till he was 6 and we moved out!! I now have a great education and a fantastic career so life doesnt need to be over!! Love her, support her and be there .... It's tough .... But I wouldnt change my life x
