Using a tens

Hi,
Does anyone know if a normal Tens machine can be used during labour or if you can only use the specific tens machines.
My mother has one and I was hoping to use that instead of hiring one.
Thanks

I was told it had to be a specific maternity one.

A maternity one can give you a 'boost 'during contractions. As far as I know, the pther non-maternity ones give a constant output.

I've used just a TENS for 2 of my labours and didn't need any other form of pain relief. I can't recommend them highly enough!

I also used one, and found it very helpful. Not enough in the long term, but very helpful for that point in my labour.

kbaby, I used a tens machine for earlier contractions with ds, and it was a life saver, wrote it on my birth plan and so when I got to the hospital, they knew I wanted to use it...hope you can get one

Kbaby think the maternity ones are the only sort that have 4 pads; others just have 2. If you go to a big Boots you can hire one there and then as they're more likely to have them in stock... I only just got mine and you know what my state of pg is...
