Mummy I don't want a baby

How do you deal with one child that is happy for a baby brother or sister and another that doesn't?
I'm not yet pg but we would like another and have been testing the water with kids. a couple of weeks ago one said they'd be happy for a baby but now says they don't and is getting really upset if we ask why not.
I know it isn't their decision but we don't want the children to be put out and unhappy if a new baby arrives

How old are your children? the reality of a baby is so different from the theory...

are they concerned that mummy will have no time for them?

there is a lot you can do to involve your children in preparing for a new sibling ..books etc ....and they can be involved in the pregnancy..eg come to the scans or midwife appointments so they have time to get used to it....

my DS wanted a sibling...a brother...was most cross when the 20 week scan revealed the baby to be a sister....he got used to her..and loves her and dotes on her after spending a long time asking me when she would grow a willy!

there is always a period of adjustment when babies arrive...and your children not being keen on having a sibling should not stop you having more children, IMO....they will have several months to get used to the idea!

To be honest, if they weren't going to get a say in whether or not you have another baby, you really shouldn't have asked them. Better, IMO, to wait until you are pregnant and then simply say "You will be having a new brother or sister soon"

If you ask them if they want one, they say no, and then you do it anyway, they might feel a bit hurt that you didn't listen.
