Measuring fundal height.

I'm currently 25+3 weeks pregnant and consider myself to be looking quite a lot further than I am. This is not helped by the fact that when people ask when I'm due and I tell them not until September, they don't really know how to respond except for to gasp and look shocked!
I have been to all of my midwife appointments and as this isn't my first baby I have no appointment from 20 until 28 weeks now and, as of yet, nobody has measured my fundal height so I don't know if I'm really measuring bigger than average or if I just look it!
Has this happened to anyone else? I'm sure I should have been measured by now...Confused

(I should mention that I am usually a size 10 and haven't really put on weight anywhere other than boobs or bump, so naturally, am looking particularly whale-like)

They don't usually start measuring until 28 weeks.

Even when they do I wouldn't worry too much about it, 2cm either way is normal (I have been anything from 2cm small to 3cm too big)

They will refer for a scan if it is anything outside of this range.

As for people's comments, totally normal, I've been getting this from early on too, and have had growth scans - baby is perfectly average!

That's very reassuring, thank you for your advice. Smile

People have been saying I am huge... I don't feel as big this time (third time) but appreciate my stomach muscles are knackered now Grin
Last week I was measured for the first time and am measuring 30+ and I was 28 weeks at the time. I have another appointment to go back in three weeks (an additional appointment to what was scheduled) and they will measure me again.
I'm not overly concerned as I feel fine, and I've been told regularly that measurements and even scans are notoriously misleading but can see the mw is taking a bit of action with a bit of extra monitoring.

HazleNutt · 02/06/2015 10:20

it's incredibly inaccurate - based on my measurements, I actually managed to shrink one month (no I didn't really). So I wouldn't worry.

Also there is a margin of error depending on who measures you.

I was measured by the consultant at 29cm, the same week the midwife made it 27cm!

MissTwister · 02/06/2015 10:26

I think it depends on your build. I am bigger with big boobs etc and people tell me I look small - yet I am measuring 2-3 weeks ahead. Growth scan showed bang on 50%. I'd ignore it!

Glad to hear others are having similar experiences. I just have a niggly feeling this babies coming early (but not too early I hope!)
I will wait and see what my midwife has to say...Smile

People keep telling me I'm big too - I think it's because I'm short. I'm 29 weeks measuring 31 and the midwife says that's fine. I started showing early too.

S2b16 · 02/06/2015 18:53

I've measured 4 weeks ahead last 3 times I've been seen. Nobody is worried tho as baby following same centile. Said they'd only worry if baby jumped/dropped a few centiles.

squigglehead · 02/06/2015 19:24

It really means basically nothing. Based on bump size/fundal height DS was supposedly huge, they sent me for a growth scan and everything. He emerged a whopping 6lbs 14oz Hmm I also know people for whom it was the other way round so don't put too much stock in it :)

NoodieRoodie · 02/06/2015 20:43

You'll be due about the same time as me, I'm currently 26 weeks and looking a lot bigger this time. This is my third though and I got huge towards the end with my 1st and was small thoughout with my 2nd (she was still 8lbs!).

I'm not concerned though and I'll be interested to see what I'm measuring when I see the MW in a couple of weeks.

FeelTheNoise · 02/06/2015 20:49

I'm enormous too! I'm 25+5 and when I'm sitting down my bump touches my boobs! Working up to 38 weeks is going to be an absolute treat....

Shootingstar2289 · 02/06/2015 21:20

They usually start measuring at around 28 weeks although my midwife actually measured me at 25 weeks for some reason.

Anyway, the size of your actual bump isn't what she's measuring. She's measuring from your pubic bone to the top of your uterus.

I put on loads and had a massive bump with my first born - I always measured correctly

This time, I haven't put on that much weight and have quite a small bump but baby has been measuring 3-4 weeks ahead!!
