Help! Am I in labour?

I'm 37+4 and for 2 days now I have had quite severe braxton hicks that come and go. Tonight I'm feeling quite severe period pain and the braxton hicks again. No contractions and no waters breaking... What do I do? Is this labour?

Take some paracetamol and get some rest. If it's labour you will know, it will ramp up. Pain will become more intense and regular. If you're worried about anything give the birthing/labour suite a call and they'll be able to help and reassure you.

Period type pains may mean something is starting... All you can do is wait and see! At 37 weeks you're full term anyway so it's all good. If I were you I'd try to get comfortable and relax as much as possible. Try to avoid taking paracetamol as this can extend the very early stages of labour. Good luck!

My doctor told me when pains lasted a duration of one minute and we're 5 minutes apart to go to the hospial. This was in the 70's & 80's, so not sure if the rules have changed. Good luck, keep us posted!

I'd monitor the movements of your baby if there is any change more or less movements then ring your maternity assessment unit (MAU). I'd also keep a check on how often you are getting the pains and if they are fairly regular again ring your MAU.

Basically ring MAU they won't mind a phone call from a concerned mother to be, they will assess and reassure mine did when I rang before having my Dd.
Good luck
