Would you go to gp with heavy bleeding and cramping at 4+6?

Im 4+6 and bleeding red blood, heavy like af, also have mild cramps.
OH says i should go to the doctor in the morning . Im not sure they'll do anything. What would you do?
Also, would you go.to work as normal if you thought you were miscarrying? Im a teacher so.no option to sit quietly.

No I wouldn't go to work my love. You are going to need some time off, firstly to deal with the physical side, and then some time to recover emotionally.. sometimes that bit hits unexpectedly a bit later. Go to the drs, ask for HG bloods and an epu referal and to be signed off work.

No, I'd stay at home. The GP can't do anything other than refer you to EPU, and they won't do anything when its so early.
IME its best to just stay at home at let what will happen, happen.

Yes I'd go to the GP so it's on your medical records, just for the future. I mc and got an early scan when I became pregnant again because of it. Sorry this is happening.

Hi, I would just like to state I had a MC exactly the same time as you OP. I went to doc and they referred me to EPU. EPU DID act and check it wasn't eptopic and did blood tests to check HG levels. The HG levels confirmed that it was a MC and this helped me to prepare my mind for what was to come and I got info from the EPU of what to expect etc.

This was my experience at EPU anyway.

When I had heavy bleeding and cramping at 6+4 I made a GP appointment for 2 days time and tried to cycle to work and just get on with it, but had a cycling accident on my way in and ended up in a&e! I think at less than 5 weeks I'd probably do the same again, really, but without the cycling accident.

sorry to see you here :( personally I worked during my MCs (with children too) as it was a tiny bit of a distraction to the heart break (but i dont know many people where i live so it was that or sit at home and cry). if i lived near friends and family i would have took time off and spent some with them. defo go to your epu for blood tests to double check not ectopic and is resolving itself. really sorry to hear your news and hope you have RL support and cuddles from your partner xxxx

I would go to the doctors because if you sadly had more than 1, they all count. You don't get any help until 3 in a row. God forbid that it never happens to you, but you need them recorded.

I guess part of me is still hoping (probably in vain) that my bean is still ok. I had bleeding at 8 weeks with ds1 but there was no cramping and a scan at epu showed all ok. Im sure of my dates as i was using opks so i know im not quite 5 weeks. Bleeding went on for a couple of hours but now seems to hace tailed off. Still have cramps like af though, right down low. Dont know what to do for the best. If i see gp tomorrow i cant even get to work later in the day as oh has to take the car to work (normally lift share) and he cant get a lift as needs to drop ds1 at childminders. I work an hour away and no public transport. Although i dont know if theyd refer to mw epu for same day. My doctors are generally quite unsympathetic. Same day appointments are with duty doctor so no choice about who you see.
Arrgh, its all messing with my head and i still have so much work to do tonight and i cant concentrate.

try and go to the epu and at least you will know. if you have bled in the past and been ok then finers crossed for you. it might be a case that they can give you something like progesterone for the bleeding if that was the case. really hope you are ok. My gp is a bit of a dick but i kicked up a fuss and got appointment straight the way - thank goodness as first one was ectopic. fingers crossed for you x

My epu requires written referral from gp, so would defo have to see them first.

OP, it's less likely to be okay at 4+6 but I am currently 30 weeks with the pregnancy that I had cramping and heavy bleeding at 6+4 with. It's definitely worth making a GP appointment, but they can't usually scan so early, so it will probably be a week or two before you can be sure. You'll probably have to see if the bleeding continues and if you continue to have positive pregnancy tests.

My oh has gone out to get a clearblue digi. If my calculations are correct i should.show as 2-3 weeks?

I had this and it was a chemical unfortunately. I would take a few days off work just to get over the worst of the bleeding and get your head around the emotional side.

There is of course a chance everything is ok, so I don't want to sound horrible and pessimistic when we don't know exactly what's going on but that early on I think it's less likely to be ok.
I wouldn't set much store by the clear blue digitals tbh. With dd1 I had 2-3 weeks at 14dpo and with dd2 I didn't get 2-3 weeks til I was over 5 weeks.
Have you done a regular test where it shows a line? If so I would use the same test and see if the line is any darker or whether it's getting fainter. When I had a chemical my lines got fainter.

So sorry, it's an awful thing to happen. I had two - one at 5 weeks and one at 7.5 weeks. I went on to have two beautiful girls though xx

Sorry to hear about this OP, when I had bleeding early in my pregnancy I went to A&E on advice of the midwife. They couldn't do anything for me but they referred me to the EPAU and I had a scan the next morning so there's always the option of doing that too. X

Thanks. I won't go to a+e unless i feel like I'm dying with pain. Think I will see how i feel in the morning . It's a pain of I'm off this week though as I'm needed for exams , my whole class will have to be postponed if I'm not there.

Pregnancy tests are likely to stay positive for some time after a miscarriage - the hormones remain in your system for a while. It really is probably just a matter of wait and see. :/

I know, but i peed on my last cheapie test this evening. Still shows dark line but they are ultra sensitive so it would.
I figure if the digi still shows 1-2 weeks ill know that hcg isnt rising properly and that there's no hope.

Well, the digi showed up pregnant instantly then 2-3 weeks after a couple of mins. Im actually only 17dpo due to late ovulation (although af 6 days late as i have short cycles ) so this is where it should be.
I don't know what to think now, i only bled heavily for a couple of hours in the end, no blood on pad overnight and cramps have eased .

mine were strong positives for a couple of weeks unfortunately so prob still best for you to get checked. fingers crossed though xx

I tested strongly positive for some time after my miscarriage, too. Have you booked the GP yet?

Gp doesnt open until 8.30 so can't call until then. If i have no more bleeding im.going to try and hang on a couple of days so that there would be a chance for epu to see.something on a scan

I know how you're feeling as I've been there three times. At 4+6 tou would be 1-2 weeks on a cb. It works on how late your period is so by there reckoning you would be 1 week 6 days pregnant.

I second what ever one else said about speaking to gp. My surgery offers a triage service where you get a phone call back. The gp I spoke to was great and just asked me what I wanted to do. I said stay at home and she said fine and gave me a few things I should keep an eye out for- soaking a pad in less than an hour and very bad pain. So sorry again x
