Men that get it right in pregnancy...

I have been reading through many posts recently and SOME men really don't have a clue when it comes to pregnancy and what us women go through..., BUT I thought it would be nice to share positive/sweet/funny experiences of what our partners/husbands have done to support us!

My husband bless him (don't know how the hell he puts up with me) had been clearing my buckets of sick up, working full time, cleaning house, cooking, going out at midnight to get bizarre strange things I crave that I might be able to keep down and looks after DS1 and takes him out so I can rest whenever possible. He also listens to my constant moaning and still gives me a kiss and cuddle and reminds me of all the good things to come. I am so lucky and fortunate to have him.

Let's share some good stories about our men!!

Stealth boast.

Lady - no not at all. Why is there always someone who tries to say something negative.

I just thought it would be nice for people to share all the good things that men do as we are quick to moan about them!

Mine is the same as yours :) he has been amazing through both pregnancies and I thank my lucky stars hugely when I am in full blown hormonal meltdown that he is understanding and forgiving!! He has been utterly wonderful through both dealing with toddler this time round as well as all the house stuff when the SPD and tiredness flatten me. There are some awesome ones out there!!

Lovely idea New! My husband has had his ups and downs (like me!) but he's been really supportive. He'll nip out to get me food, help me with Hypnobirthing and last night spent ages trying to bring down the sudden swelling in my feet by rubbing them despite having his arm strapped up.

Nice to give credit where it's due.

Mine sat and played ps4 while I was throwing up but he did ask me if I wanted a drink after so I guess that counts . Otherwise I've just got on with it

Glitz - yes at least he asked lol and didn't say you know where the kitchen is!!

Nanny & Mistress - both your partners sound amazing and supportive! It has def made me think twice about the little niggles I have and use to moan about..., ie always leaving clothes on the floor after shower etc and other little bits and bobs... At the end of the day they have stepped up when we really have needed them!

Actually I think it's a nice idea.

Mine is great. Incredibly supportive through months of extreme sickness, nausea, sore back and hips etc. it really is those little day to day kindnesses that make the world of difference.

Has taken the bins out more than daily when I was nauseous, held back my hair, rubs my back, cheers me up, carries the heavy stuff and is very excited about the baby.

He's also very intelligent and funny and kind. I'm a very fortunate girl.

I agree! I like to read nice stories as you hear so many of the 'unsupportive teat' variety!

My DP is awesome. I had awful, awful HG with my first and he just cracked on, cleaned the house, rubbed my back, changed about 4000 sick bowls all with genuine care and concern for me. When I felt I could eat something, he'd go get it and when I had restless legs he'd rub my calves whilst I grumbled!

I had a horrible pregnancy made a million times better by him just being there, listening and picking up the slack without one word of complaint. He also supported me through the birth and recovery, establishing BFing we've really worked as a team since DS was born.

I'm pregnant with my second and thankfully haven't been as sick but do get tired with a 17 month old to look after. Again he helps as much as he can when he's home with no expectations for things 'being done around the house' and he lets me rest whenever he can. He also frequently turns up with surprise treats (mostly chocolate!)

He's also been awesomely supportive in my choice to home birth this time round.

We are both far from perfect but he always puts us first and is the most genuinely kind partner I've ever had. I am so, so lucky to have him. More boasting than stealth boasting now but he's ace.

When I was craving a cream cake, my dp bought every variety in our local small tesco as he didn't know which kind I wanted.
He's been amazing throughout and so supportive with my spd

Skipton - you're so right, even little gestures can make a huge difference to how you feel. Those little jobs and support shown throughout the day goes such a long way!! Another star!!

Allstop - Again how amazing!! Like you the sickness is awful and when it's around you or all over you (makes you even more sick!!) I had HG first pregnancy and now again and I don't know how they can handle so much sick or even the smell!! To constantly clean it all up and clean you etc without batting an eyelid is something else!

It's great that he's so involved and supportive with your choices too! Funny thing I remember after giving birth to number 1 was hubby trying to milk me (lol yes really) as I was so stressed with trying to bf and expressing, he looked up these techniques online to help stimulate milk production and was trying anything to try and help me along with it! I couldn't do it in the end and when a MW who was visiting commented that I would be poisoning my son if I went over to formula (made a complaint after about her!) I burst into tears and husband literally through her out of the house!! My husband is the most timid kind man that you could come across lol... I have never seen him so angry and was so proud of him ha!!

It's nice to share these stories and show there are goodens out there too!

S2 - clever man!! Now this is my hubby goes wrong... I ask for original Doritos and he comes back with plain walkers crisps as they didn't have any... I feel awful saying this... But sent him out again until he got the correct ones!! (I feel bad now.. But when you have a craving it's got to be!!)

My DH has been lovely - in trim 1 when I felt rough and didn't want to eat anything he'd bring me marmite on toast and mandarins.

I'm in 3rd trim now and he rubs my belly with stretch mark oil every night. It helps him feel connected, esp when the little one pops up to bump his hand!

Only a couple of things spring to mind but looking back they make me laugh. With dc1 I couldn't eat chocolate without throwing up, one night I really wanted something sweet to eat and the only thing in the house was a grab bag of malteasers, dh nibbled the chocolate of everyone for me :). Whilst heavily pregnant with dc3 I was struggling to get out of bed, dh offered to and I quote "do you need me to roll you out of bed" he still wonders why I told him to f**k off!!

Charlie - aww that's so lovely about the massage and a special way of bonding and oiling up at the same time! You can't beat marmite on toast either.

cath that's so funny! if my dp did that for me i would have no malteasers left hehe.. My dp is lovely he is just super kind and loving! he does everything for me.. aww i love him hahaa

All your DPs sound lovely!
I'm only 6-7 weeks pregnant but suffering with waves of nausea/ lightheaded which seems worse in the evenings and my DP has been great, it's our first so we are both clueless! But he's making sure I'm eating (even buying all my favourite foods) and even came home with a bunch of flowers when I was feeling sorry for myself!
I'm just a little worried that it's gonna get old fast, I mean I'm spending most evenings in bed or just feeling rubbish so poor DP is sat downstairs on his own watching tv and its only been a few weeks! am I being selfish or should I stop feeling guilty?

Mine is a star - he's looked after me through a hellish first trimester of constant debilitating sickness and he's constantly telling me how beautiful I am and how much he loves my bump and he's started chatting away to it he's thrown himself into car seat researching and he's already planning a sling collection and reading about sleep habits and breastfeeding support etc. He's so determined to be an equal hands on parent and it just makes me love him even more

Lovely husband (partner) appreciation thread! My fiancé is amazing and I'm so in love. He went to look for a watermelon for me at midnight last week and did find it! Along with a beautiful bunch of roses!

But my favourite thing that he does is when he says :"let's go and treat you with something!".

Hope - your partner sounds great and please don't worry about being in bed upstairs etc! Your partner will understand and I'm exactly like this too! Ps if he's anything like my hubby he's catching up on years of repeats of Top Gear and secretly enjoying having the TV to himself lol! He sounds extremely supportive, sit back and relax and let him take care of you. I always think of little ways to let my partner know how brilliant he is being, by writing a little note and putting it in his wallet and I always comment about how lucky I am to have him so he knows everything he does is appreciated.

Bunny/knit/miss - again what lovely other halves! It's so touching when they do those special things and things like the researching into products etc that's so sweet of them! What amazing special men

Good idea - I think we probably all do the men-are-so-useless thing sometimes, and it's good to remind ourselves that they don't always live up to the stereotypes. Mine is mostly just good at putting up with my hormonal outbursts at stupid things without complaining. But he is also a great dad to our existing DCs and does so much around the house already that I this pregnancy is not as much of a strain as it would be otherwise. He is a fantastic cook and takes care of pretty well all mealtimes, and we share shopping, cleaning, and childcare on equal terms. So I can't really complain about the snacking on raw onions, hours spent incommunicado while the footie is on, leaving his socks down the side of the sofa, losing his phone/watch/wallet every second day, or having smelly feet. Right?

My DP is also bloomin' marvellous

Throughout my pregnancy and beyond (DS is 3 weeks old) he has cooked and cleaned and urged me to send him out inthe night if it had any overwhelming cravings! He also did the bump oiling and rubbed my feet almost every day since the BFP!

He was a fantastic birth partner too, there is nothing I can think of that he could have done better.

My DH has been amazing, working full time, doing all the cooking, pandering to my cravings. We had to have an emergency scan last week due to bleeding and his tears of joy when he saw the heartbeat were wonderful.

All I've ever wanted is to model a happy marriage to my children and give them a better dad than I had. I feel so fortunate that I will.

My dh is pretty amazing when I'm pg tbh, although can be a right pita at other times Hugs are on tap, he cleans up sick, brings me breakfast in bed and is generally very understanding and lovely. Last pregnancy all I could eat were chicken sandwiches, so he'd make them in the morning, wrap them individually and put them in the fridge so all I had to do was struggle downstairs and get one. He even gave me his credit card to buy a Mulberry bag online to cheer myself up
I'm now pg with number 3, so fingers crossed he's as good this time round!

It's wonderful when partners become so protective over you and the little ones growing inside you. I think they realise just how miraculous the whole thing is

I am totally blaming S2b16 and Australian Masterchef, I have just asked long suffering DH to go to the shops to buy chocolate eclairs and Apple filled yumyums!
