Clothing Confusion

I am getting confused between Newborn, Up to One Month and 0-3 month clothes. Newborn states 7lb 6 oz, One Month 9lb 14oz and 0-3 months, 13lbs 4oz

As I don't know the size of my baby does this mean I need to buy babygrows in all three sizes? Or can a newborn wear One Month size. Because it's going to be a summer baby I assume I will need full body suits and short sleeve ones so I don't really want to be ordering both of these in a variety of sizes! Any advice?

DD was 7lbs 12oz and was in newborn for at least 3 weeks despite gaining weights quickly. Some people recommend just buying a bigger size but even 0-1 would have swamped her for at least a couple of weeks.
Probably best to just get a couple j newborn and a couple in the next size then wait to buy anything else until the baby is born.

Even if you have a big baby, 0-3 months most likely will be too big for him/her. You will need it later though. You could get just up to one month, if they are really big you can always buy smaller ones later, shops are still open once you had a baby.

Thanks for the advice. I know you can always buy more after but am worried I wont have anything to take them home from hospital in if clothes are too big/ small!

As it will be a July/Aug baby do you think I need full babygrows or just short ones?

I think even summer babies would need a full length baby grow as they don't have much body fat to keep them warm when newly born. I've bought short sleeve vests for under baby grows in newborn and 0-3 sizes, the plain white cotton ones from sainsbury are cheap as chips x

Newborn is perfect for first couple of weeks. Although I was really confused as next seem to have first size then up to 1 month (which I now believe to be newborn) I'm on DC4 and I'm still confused... Plus I ordered newborn stuff from tkmaxx and I got 0-3 months! Frustrating lol x

Even if they are slightly too big/slightly too small they'll be fine for taking baby home in!

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 31/05/2015 20:58

Steph Next are fairly large sizing and found first size to be the equivalent of newborn and 0-1 was similar to 0-3 in other shops!

Steph1502 · 31/05/2015 21:02

Really? I sized the stuff up and compared to the 'newborn' (aka 0-3 months) from tkmaxx they are totally tiny. My biggest baby was 7lbs11oz and she fitted into tiny baby so I think they should be fine for the hospital and coming home x

cosmicglittergirl · 31/05/2015 21:07

Annoyingly different shops come up differently sized too. My DDs were both 9lb ers and didn't fit newborn, but did up to one month for a couple of weeks. After I moved onto 0-3 months mother care and sainsbury's grows were better at first as my M n S and JLewis ones came up bigger in the arm and legs.
They are nice and cheap at sainos.

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 31/05/2015 21:50

DD was 7lbs 12oz and the 'first size' and 0-1 Next stuff was huge on her! I guess it depends on the shape of the baby too.
I haven't seen any TKMaxx stuff so don't know how it compares. I think DD came home in Mamas and Papas newborn stuff and it swamped her.

Steph1502 · 31/05/2015 22:27

The tkmaxx stuff was different discounted makes so was all different but they classed 0-3 months as newborn as the tag on the clothes was 0-3 but the shop price tag said newborn. Mega confusing! Lol. xx

I'very got some newborn (up to 10lbs) some 0 - 3months and one that is smaller than the newborn, just in case i have a small baby (unlikely.....)

CarrotPuff · 01/06/2015 07:40

The sizing is different in all shops.

They will be either
Newborn - Upto 1 month - 0-3 (Primark, M&S, H&M I think)
Or
Tiny Baby - Newborn - 0-3 (Boots, Mothercare)

So Newborn will be a different size depending on the shop.

Don't look at the weight as an absolute guide - DS would fit in 7.5 lb clothes when he was way over 8lbs as they are soft and stretchy.

Some shops' sizing comes up bigger - I found Boots and H&M are on bigger side. Primark is quite small.

It's such a minefield when you are expecting your first. Get some smaller sizes and keep them in packets. Once baby arrives you can return them if you have a big baby. Your baby won't mind if s/he is wearing clothes that are slightly too big for the first couple days.

Last time, I just took 0-3 month stuff to the hospital with the intention of sending dh to tescos to buy smaller stuff if necessary. In the end ds was 8lb 8oz and, although baggy, he was fine in 0-3 month stuff from the start - not like he was trying to run anywhere! And saved money on not having to buy an extra wardrobe in newborn clothes. Will be doing the same this time.
