in pain!

Morning,

Hopefully someone will be able to tell me what's wrong -

I woke up yesterday morning with backache which I assumed was normal. I do get growing pains in my stomach so wasn't too bothered. I was taking paracetamol and relaxed most of the day with a hot water bottle which seemed to help.

However at 3am this morning I woke up to what I can only describe as shooting/cramping pains all down the right side of my back and side. Sometimes the pain was going into my stomach but a lot. I was crying it hurt that much. If I sit bolt upright the pain does subside but if I lie down on my left side within a few minutes it will come back again and force me to sit up.

The only thing I can think of is some sort of kidney related issue or a nerve has gone? I'm 23 weeks + 4 so is way too early to be any sort of labour signs. I hope!

Has anyone had this before? I'm worried because the pain is intense enough to reduce me to tears and make me feel sick.
I did feel baby's movements as normal yesterday too, haven't this morning but he's not normally active until about 10 am anyway.

I'd go and get checked out, it could be baby related or it could be something like gallstones.

It could be another type of growing pain but if it's that sore you are in tears and regular painkillers aren't helping I'd give your triage midwife a call.
Make sure baby's movements are normal for you. Is it sore when you pee or are you going less than normal? Any unusual leaking? In pregnancy you can be prone to urinary infections without all the regular symptoms.

I've just phoned the day unit. She said because I haven't had any bleeding or stabbing pains in my stomach I need to go to a walk in centre to be seen by a doctor as they don't think it's baby related.

Not the best way to start a Sunday but if you go early to the centre you will hopefully be seen quickly before they get busy!

Do you have fibroids? Fibroid degeneration pain in pregnancy is fecking awful.

Does it happen when you move or sneeze? It may just be that your ligaments are over stretching (round ligament pain- I've cried a couple of times and it catches you off guard) I've had this with both pregnancies and the pain you're describing sounds very similar to what I had.

the midwife i spoke to at the hospital said where baby's go through a growth spurt between 20-24 weeks by the sound of it it's growing pains or round ligament pain. I've had a bath and OH has rubbed my back so I'm just in bed on my side waiting for it to hopefully go.

Thanks for your comment ladies. It's always a bit of a worry with any pains. Especially when it's your first baby. I don't know what's normal and what's not

Glad everything's ok I was exactly the same with my first. With my second in having new pains so still worrying a bit but not as much lol.

I did actually go to the hospital in the end. I have a trapped nerve in my back which is why I was in so much pain. Ive been in bed all day, but with the help of Panadol and a hot water bottle permanently strapped to my back it's taking the edge off!

They said there's no time frame on how long a trapped nerve can be like this for so hopefully not too long as I'm moving house tomorrow. Talk about bad timing or what!?
