I'm only 24 weeks but I'm trying to pick up bits here and there. I just wondered how many baby grows, vests etc I'll need to start with? Also any recommendations on sizes to buy?

10 best and babygrows age newborn and 0-3 months

2 cardigans in both sizes

Number3cometome · 29/05/2015 14:38

Bare minimum a pack of 7 babygrows and a pack of sleep suits.

I wouldn't bother with newborn, it never fit my two, so was straight to 0-3

Mine both wore newborn at least 6 weeks despite both being over 7 1/2 pounds born

Lots and lots of baby grows!

iWantToBeAlone · 29/05/2015 17:18

Mine was 6 pounds 3 and in newborn for ages. We bought a pack of vests, babygrows and a cardi or two, I think they were all from Asda. We got so many clothes as gifts that apart from what she wore in the hospital, we could have got away with buying nothing until she hit the 6+ month size! We are so badly organised we hadn't bought much, but some of the gifts did go unworn. It is worth bearing in mind most gifts will probably be clothes, before you go out buying loads.

7-10 sleepsuits
7-10 vests (either short sleeve or long sleeve or sleeveless, depending on time of year baby is due)
cardigan or two
Cotton hat this was my favourite one as it actually stayed on her head

We bought the above, all in white in size 0-3 months (as didn't know sex). Then DD was less than 7lbs so it all swamped her. But it was fine for the day or two until we could buy newborn size stuff.

Gosh I have loads of vests! Got given loads that were long sleeved so bought some short sleeved and sleeveless. Now I'm thinking I have FAR too many. But at the same time, won't run out for a while even if no washing gets done...... Blush

Aside from that we have about 10-12 baby grows, all plain.

Millions of bibs! They seem to have magical multiplied without me really knowing how. Baby isn't even born yet!

Oh and don't forget about cellular blankets. We did until last week when our ante-natal classes mentioned them.

Cellular blankets are a load of bollix. I have 3 in my hot press never used. I remember putting them on my poor newborn, they are stiff and not cosy and no wonder he didn't sleep. I thought he'd get sids if I didn't use them. Finally realised that although they are recommended, nobody uses them that I know of. You check baby so much when they are tiny you won't let them overheat or smother with or without a cellular blanket.

Vests and baby grows, loads of them. DD was quite a pukey baby so we went through loads. She was around seven and a half pounds when born and in newborn stuff for quite a while.

I never used a bib for either child or cellar blankets..
