Is it routine for Health Visitors to visit *before* birth?

I just received a letter saying that our local HV will visit me at home when I'll be approx 32 weeks to go over paperwork, and from the small amount of info in the letter, check to see whether the home/health/people within the house are... I don't know, suitable?! I'm a wee bit concerned that I'm being picked out for some kind of 'special treatment' even though everything so far has been totally routine!

Did this happen to you? What did they discuss?

Think it's routine now, I got a letter but ignored it. He's are not my favourite people, they aren't given enough training in certain areas like breastfeeding and it's frustrating when you hear them spouting out out of date advice. I plan to see one as little as possible.

I too plan to avoid!

Not routine in my area either, but my area appears to be stretched. I didn't see the HV until DS was 5 months old. When I asked about this I was told it's in priority order, he was late pre-term and I had a crash emcs so not sure how they work it out!
She was very nice, but many of the things we talked about such as breastfeeding (which had been a disaster) there was no point talking about 5 months in.

I was told that although in some areas it is routine, they don't have the resources here to see everyone but you can request one if concerned.

Routine here - I'm in Leeds. For 1st and 2nd baby.
