Hope no one minds me posting yet another thread but I feel like everyone else is already soooooo fed up hearing baby talk. Lol. So, I'm desperate to know baby's sex but OH doesn't want to know at all. He agreed to me going to a gender scan next week but I've not to let on what we are having. Now I'm not sure I can keep such a secret! I'm such a bad liar! Lol. But I'm so excited to know what we are having. Anyone else done this? Any tips on how to keep the secret til baby arrives? xx

That's going to be really difficult! Have you already discussed names?

I can't understand why you wouldn't want to know...especially if your other half knows. Excruciating voluntary ignorance...lol.

Will you tell other people or keep it just to yourself? That's also going to present a set of problems.

This is DC4 and I didn't know with the others. It was lovely to have the surprise at the end but as I've already got 3 and I'm due 7 weeks before Christmas I want to be prepared. So I want to know. Plus the fact I'm really impatient lol. I would only be telling my mum and that would be that. So no one else would slip up to him... Only me haha

How far along are you ? Im in the same position, Im 15 weeks and know I could potentially get a scan next week if I wanted to! but husband not so sure....

Why do you need to "be prepared" for the sex of the baby? I'm pregnant with my first and wouldn't plan on anything different for boy or girl. I'm planning on buying mixed clothes/toys regardless as the baby really won't care.

Because I'd like to buy blue or pink and with 3 kids and so close to Christmas I don't want to be going shopping etc. never found out sex b4 and this time I really want to

OH wanted to know the sex at 20 week scan but I didn't. Sonographer agreed she would show him baby's parts whilst I closed my eyes, but before I could little monkey swung his legs open for all to see the crown jewels haha!

I would never in a million years manage to keep that quiet from my DH.

I wanted to find out but DH didn't and we got to a point where we said we'd have to agree on a mutual decision as there was no way I'd be able to stop myself accidentally saying "she" or similar.

In the end he could see that I was desperate to know and agreed we would both find out.

Ouch that's a hard one.
It's a bit harsh of DP if you've had surprises for the others and you're desperate to find out this time.
Totally understand why you'd want to know, in terms of what clothes to keep from previous DC and sleeping arrangements etc down the line.
We found out with our second as it influenced our decision about moving house.

I don't think he could have kept the secret. He has a daughter from a past relationship and was really hoping for a boy so he would have wanted everyone to know! Jaha

Hi Steph,

I know, DH doesn't (and doesn't want to know, he wants a surprise). Only advice is to try and think of it as a game. I am 27 weeks and have known since week 11. So it is feasible.

Ah other tip. Before you find out, you need to agree on a convention and refer to the baby as a "he" or a "she". Since he doesn't want to know I suggest you let him pick the convention.

Well we found out yesterday and I slipped up already... OH wasn't too upset with me as I think he was just over the moon as we are having a girl :) no secrets now x

Hey Steph, it's the same for me. It's my first baby (I'm 15 weeks so could have a private gender scan next week) and my partner doesn't want to know. He already has a son and a daughter and a step-daughter (who's team mummy she found out with both her son & daughter - our grandkids) so whatever we have is a bonus for him I guess but I am absolutely desperate to know, plus I'd like to take my Mum as I think it would be really special for her too; I've thought about just booking it and telling them to come but I don't want to upset my partner.

Also - when I've been looking at the baby things in all the shops, everything looks very gender specific - even things like travel systems and owing to my age, previous miscarriages, scares this pregnancy, being so Ill money, work etc etc - the list goes on, I think this will be my only baby so I just want to make the most of my experience.

Am I being unreasonable?!?!?! Plus my Mum is knitting and says she can't finish things off if she doesn't know what side to sew the buttons on - yes, that's really what she said!!!!!!! Xx

My OH agreed to me finding out and just keeping it a secret... Then I slipped up. Oops. I think no matter what, you'll find out the sex eventually lol. With your first it's nice to keep it a surprise though in my opinion xx

My dp didn't want to know with the first so the sonographer refused to tell me too . He didn't want to know with these 2 either but dd was with me at the 20 week scan and I told her she has sisters on the way so she's been informing dp that her sisters are in my tummy. Tough shit

I don't really understand why people wait to find out the sex of the baby. I mean, is it any less surprising at 20 weeks than it is at the very end? It's always going to be one or the other - it's not like there are hundreds of possibilities!!

I know people say "ohh but in the olden days no-one knew until the end", but in the olden days no-one had pregnancy scans either. Now, finding out that you are having twins at the very end, having not had any scans....that would be a surprise!!

I guess it's the not knowing what your being handed after all that time. It must be quite nice.
I would've liked to have kept it a surprise this time but DH can't wait!
