we had our routine scan on may 7th and everything was great, no complications, baby was normal. Then on the bank holiday monday my water broke and we went to hospital.
They suspected preterm rupture of the membrane, and this was followed up by ultrasound and meeting with the consultant obstetrician.
Today I turned 23 weeks, and we are in limbo as this is a rare complication to have PPROM in the second trimester.
The good news is that on Tuesday there was a slight leak of 5ml approx, but 48 hrs later it is dry. There is no fever or pain, and there is no bleeding.
I have been discharged for now and have an appointment in a weeks time.

Does anyone know of or had this happen to them?
We are worried that the baby will be born with severe disabilities if born soon, but prognosis improves with time.

Has anyone had the membrane reheal and the pregnancy carry on as normal?

Would love to hear from anyone.

Hi MDA. I had PPROM at 25 weeks in 2011. My waters broke in the night and when I went to the labour ward a few hours later, they confirmed my waters had broken. Their advice was to avoid having baths as the biggest risk is developing an infection which would travel up into the womb.

I was hospitalised for 3 weeks and then allowed to go home at 28 weeks and come into hospital every couple of days to be monitored. At 32 weeks, I developed an infection suddenly and stared vomiting at home. Quickly started to get contractions, went to hospital and had my daughter by emergency c-section. She spent 8 weeks on the neonatal unit and is now a very happy, cheeky little girl.

My advice would be to keep hopeful and rest as much as you can. If you're still leaking amniotic fluid, wear thick sanitary pads. I found the charity Bliss, which supports families with premature babies, to be very helpful and supportive.

There was some bleeding last night, but no pain.
Had another speculum examination, but the cervix was closed, and bloods revealed no infection. We have a follow up appt next wed. Baby heart beat doing ok.
