Post sweep - period pains but no show or contractions

Had a sweep at 2.30pm today, cervix was still back but was 1cm dilated and baby is fully engaged. Have been having bad period-type cramps ever since, getting slightly (but not dramatically) worse in the last few hours. Some teeeny amounts of blood on wiping but nothing resembling a show and no contractions. Am going to take some paracetamol and head to bed but wondered if people think this is likely the start of labour or just...not?

Teeny amounts of blood was only show I ever had with mine. Fingers crossed for you!

Thanks. Hoping to get a bit of shut eye if it is going to kick off...

It sounds like things could be getting going for you- exciting! I had exactly the same feeling, period like cramps, following my sweep for 5 or 6 hours and then moved onto having proper contractions. Actually makes me feel broody just thinking about it all (although I have 3 lovely DC and that's quite enough!) Wishing you all the best ??

Hoping things move quickly and safely for you!

Nothing doing - pains eased off overnight (although I can still feel them a bit) - didn't turn into contractions. I did get my show though so it's a start! The bad news is that movements feel like they have slowed - she's usually quiet in the morning but not this quiet - am going to lie on my side for a bit and feel what I can feel and call midwife at 12 if I'm still concerned.

I would give your midwife a call.

Good job on the show, but again, unless you have contractions nothing is really for certain.

Called midwife and she told me to lie on my side and observe movements for a few hours which I've done and there's a good amount of movement there :). No more signs of labour though, boo.

It'll happen OP, baby just wants to cook a bit longer

After my first show on Saturday at 40+3 I had intense period cramps all afternoon and some bleeding but they were gone the next day. Then I had second sweep Monday 40+5 and got the cramps again but no bleeding and starting having irregular contractions and lost some bloody show.

The next morning the contractions had stopped again but I was still losing bloody show

Then this morning 41 weeks exactly I woke up and lost loads of bloody show and my waters started leaking, went hospital to be checked that it was definitely waters and to have baby monitored for half hour (standard practice I think) then was booked in for induction tomorrow morning unless baby comes tonight.

So I think sweeps can work if you're nearly there as I had zero signs at all before I had the second sweep really. I wasn't even feeling over 40 weeks pregnant

Cramps definitely completely gone now (to be honest that is a bit of a relief - they stopped me sleeping and they hurt, which I'm fine with if it's contractions but not if it's not in the cause of getting baby out!) but had a BIG load of show this morning - probably the whole thing or near enough. I know that doesn't really mean anything but it feels like progress!!

Congrats on the show and waters and good luck for tonight - are they keeping you in or have they sent you home until tomorrow morning?
