Pregnancy test advice please

Hi Everyone,
I am currently on holiday and ive been feeling quite dizzy at times and also more tired than normal. I put this down to the heat and air conditioning. I also noticed my breasts are more sensitive. My partner and I have been trying to conceive after I came off the pill. My period was due yesterday so I thought we could do a pregnancy test just to see what it said and it had two lines (which it said indicates pregnancy) although one is more faint than the other. I am experiencing some cramps almost like my period is on its way but it hasn't appeared yet. If I was pregnant I would only be very early stages.
Can anyone advise if this is normal? And if you think the test suggests I am pregnant?

Definite 2 lines congrats!! I got cramps with all 4 of my pregnancies. I just put it down to implantation and my growing uterus. Hope you manage to enjoy the rest of your holiday and aren't too tired. xx

Definitely pregnant. That line is darker than the one I got on my positive and am now 39 weeks :) Congratulations. Cramping is fairly normal in the first trimester, only worry if you get red blood accompanied by cramps.

Phew, thanks everyone! We are actually on our honeymoon so I guess it's extra special news.
Sorry to sound like a stress head but how strong are 'normal' cramps? It almost feels like I am going to get a period.
Also, how do I work out how far gone I am?

Awww that's lovely congrats on both counts!! You count from the first day of your last period so if you were due yesterday then you will roughly be 4 weeks and 1 day. That's if you have a regular 28 day cycle. Book into your GP when you get home and contact your local midwife service and they'll be able to help you out. Once you get your 12 week scan you'll get a more accurate date xx

Thank you! It's actually my first proper cycle since coming off the pill so I feel really nervous like something is going to go wrong. It all seems a bit too good to be true!
I guess I'm such a pessimist!

Congratulations!!!! My cramps when I was early pregnant were worse than my period pains. To the point I didn't dare go to the toilet as I was sure I'd be bleeding. But I wasn't and the little pain giver is now 2.5 Thanks

I used a calculator on Dr Google to get a rough estimate before my first appt. I had cramping before 9 weeks that felt like period pains but only lasted a short period each time

I got worse cramps than my period, too! I also had some early bleeding, which freaked me RIGHT out, but I'm now 29 weeks with a very active bump!

I will call the doctor when I get home. At what stage do they normally see you?

Congratulations! The doctor will most likely not be interested and just tell you to contact the midwife. My first appointment was at 9 weeks.

I got cramps with both of my pregnancies and the second time it was the symptom that made me do the test. They are definitely normal and I would say mine were worse than period cramps.

Congratulations!

I was so sure AF was coming any minute for about 4 weeks. It is such a daft design that PMT, periods and early pregnancy feel exactly the same!! Mild period cramps = totally normal.

Enjoy your holiday and just watch the sun - hormones make you much more prone to burning!

Thanks scarednoob. It's funny you should say that as I hardly ever burn in the sun (don't usually tan either, just stay pasty White!) and the other day the sun caught my shoulders and my chest and I had factor 30 sunscreen on. I thought it was strange but maybe that explains it! Xx

feeling like you are about to have a period is definitely normal! I was convinced that was what was happening.

Whether your GP is interested in the news or not depends massively on which area you live in- so if you don't 'know' best thing to do is to make an appointment- they will def be able to point you in the right direction if not do the referral to midwifery for you.

Everyone will tell you that they 'don't even do a pregnancy test' whilst this is normal- mine did do one! Perhaps I don't look trustworthy Grin

That's a very strong line. It's rare it's as dark as the control line, especially this early. Congratulations xx
