If you had a short luteal phase what did you do to correct it?

Thought i'd ask this here rather than the conception board as you have managed to get pregnant!!

I have a short luteal phase 7-8 days which by my reckoning (googling and Mumsnet of course!) means I can't get pregnant.

I just wondered what anyone has done/taken to successfully correct this and get pregnant?

Thanks all!

Nothing. I ovulate on day 21, I have a natural 29 day cycle and I have 2 children. I just used opk sticks to find out when I ovulated.

TheBananaFaceOfEvil · 21/05/2015 21:18

I naturally have a short luteal phase (24 day cycle overall) but it got even shorter when I was breastfeeding DS1. I took some sort of B vitamin (sorry, can't remember which - hopefully someone else will know!) and got pg with DS2 the next cycle.

doobeedee · 21/05/2015 21:23

I tried everything. In the end only Clomid worked.

HazleNutt · 21/05/2015 21:28

It took me a few months to get pregnant with DC2, and I always ovulated quite late in the cycle. Tried soy isoflavones, they moved OV a few days earlier and yes got pregnant that same cycle. Could have been a coincidence, of course.

zippyswife · 21/05/2015 21:35

Thanks for the messages. Great to hear that it is possible to get pregnant with it!

I have a fertility clinic appointment next week but as I have 2dcs (conceived relatively quickly and easily) I'm thinking they might say they can't help me. So I may try the soy isoflavanes.

Do you know what caused the short LP?

My short luteal phase (7-9 days) hasn't stopped me getting pregnant 3 times. First pregnancy got pregnant on second cycle after coming off pill, second time took 13 cycles and third time weren't actively trying. My GP said that short luteal phase shouldn't stop you getting pg - though I didn't believe him at the time.

Good luck!

iwantkhaleesiseyebrows · 21/05/2015 21:43

Ps easier said than done but really try to stay off google. I convinced myself when ttc second time round that I was infertile and nearly drove myself mad in the process. It def is possible to get pregnant with short luteal phase!

ChanceBeAFineThing · 21/05/2015 21:44

Acupuncture moved ovulation from day 21 of 28 day cycle to day 15. B vitamins didn't work for me, but 2 months of acupuncture did. Had been trying for just under a year.

Oh and I stopped running and all exercise expect Pilates on recommendation of the therapist. Also had 2 children conceived pretty quickly, so this one was painful to wait so long to become pregnant with. Good luck at the clinic.

Thanks for the kind words. This is just the kind of positivity I needed!Flowers

Same as pottering here. I ovulate on day 20 and have a regular 28/29 day cycle. I have 2 children. I used opk sticks and conceived 1st month. Lucky I guess.

lemon101 · 21/05/2015 22:05

I got pregnant 2 days before I was due on - day 27 of a 29 day cycle. I'm not sure a short cycle is the end of the world, it just makes it harder.

Good luck!

lemon101 · 21/05/2015 22:06

... Sorry, short luteal phase!

Skiptonlass · 22/05/2015 08:03

I got knocked up with a short luteal phase (7 days.)

Unless your phase is very short, doctors over this side of the pond tend not to treat. There's some evidence that b vitamins can help, and of course progesterone support can help too. Zero evidence for acupuncture ( actually there's very solid evidence it's no different to placebo.)

Bear in mind that if your cycle is not typical, you may not be well served by the usual advice on when to have sex. We conceived the month we threw our meticulous scientific shagging plan out of the window and just did it in the brief days I came back from one work trip before he went on another. :)

zippyswife · 22/05/2015 17:28

Thanks for all the positive stories!

Better get shagging then I guess!!Smile

Clomid.

Christelle2207 · 22/05/2015 18:26

Clomid worked for me. However I think the short cycles may have been cause by underactive thyroid.
Once corrected, had no trouble at all getting pg the 2nd time.

zippyswife · 22/05/2015 19:17

Those of you who uses clomid- did you get it prescribed by the fertility clinic on nhs?

I have heard that they don't prescribe clomid for LPD?

OP posts:
Christelle2207 · 22/05/2015 19:42

I was eventually given clomid by the nhs fertility clinic yes. After lots of tests.
It's the first line thing they try as is cheap for them! The fertility consultant didn't think the short lp was an issue at all (i'm fairly sure it was) but I think gave it to almost all women initially as in most cases it is worth trying.

MistressKatherine · 22/05/2015 20:18

I tried agnus castus, herbal pill which is called nature's clomid. Worked for me but with anything make sure it's right for you first. Good luck!

DuelingFanjo · 22/05/2015 20:19

I tried at us cactus, didn't work.
Had IVF in the end.

IfYouWereARiverIdLearnToFloat · 23/05/2015 17:33

I had acupuncture as my luteal phase shortened considerably after miscarrying. Within three sessions my ovulation moved back 6 or 7 days, my cycle was regular & I was pregnant within 3 months - now 10 weeks & still having acupuncture occasionally. Had been trying for a year before that.

AngusAndElspethsThistleWhistle · 23/05/2015 17:35

I took Vit B6. The first month I took it I got pregnant so not sure if it worked or was a placebo.

good luck Smile

zippyswife · 24/05/2015 17:36

Thanks. This gives me a lot of hope and a lot of options to try!

OP posts:
MayfairMummy · 24/05/2015 18:40

Reflexology combined with vits helped here. Took so many supplements I can't remember which ones went with which issues tho. I was def on vit b. I had miscarriage issues too tho.

Toptack · 24/05/2015 18:54

Clomid. Luteal phase went from 7 days to 14 days and I then conceived relatively quickly (twice). I know the official line is that a short LP shouldn't stop you getting pregnant, but it certainly seemed to me that - at the very least - whatever was causing the short LP was also preventing me from getting pregnant, if that makes sense.
