Growth scan at 34 weeks - baby measuring big

Particularly her abdomen. I was made to come back the following day for my second GTT - which I got the results of today. Apparently they're about as perfect as you can get.

So what could make the baby this big? Especially her abdomen? Has anyone had this?

The consultant has asked me back at 36 weeks for another scan and to talk about possible induction.

Oh and she's breech Sad

Oh how stressful poor you! I can only share my experience but we had a scan at 34 weeks with DS as there was a risk of placenta praevia and he measured pretty much bang on 50th percentile (although his abdomen was also a bit bigger). 6 weeks later he turned up - on the 97th percentile! That was a shock!!

It's good they're keeping an eye on you, but these scans are just a guide and aren't set in stone, especially as babies get bigger and squashed up in there. There's also plenty of time to turn from 34 weeks so try not to stress, maybe take a look at the spinning babies website for advice on positions you can sit in to turn her head down?

Hope the doctor can reassure you, make sure you ask lots of questions when you go in but it sounds like they're keeping a close eye which is a good thing!!

Good luck!

OP, you've got lots of time to wait for her to turn (trust me; i've been on this journey lately), so don't worry yet about being breech.

As for the sizing; there is a huge variation in how big measurements are, between sonographers, hospitals, etc.... and even then it's not exactly set in stone.... as PP said, measurements can be very different in situ than when they come out. WRT the 'reason'... there might not be one that is anything to worry about? Babies are just little people after all.. they come in all different shapes and sizes. My DS1 was born 75th% for height, but 25th% for weight. My DS2 was born about 25th% for height, but 90th % for weight!

I had a groqth scan with my 2nd. They said baby was going to be about 8 to 9lbs. Went into labour the same day and had her at 6lb 13oz. I also had one with one of my sons and they said he was bang on. Had him and he was 5lb 10 and they were worried because he was so small. I really wouldnt go by growth scans. Even my midwife said they were inacurate
