Period-like pains and nausea at 5 weeks - is this normal?

I'm pretty sure I'm about 5 weeks 2 days pregnant. I did a HPT last week a day after AF was due as I'm never late (not even by a day) and was really shocked although very happy to see a BFP! I'd been feeling nauseas for about 2 days before AF was due and it just got worse, although no vomiting. I was 1million% sure that AF was due as I had awful (normal for me, although lasted a lot longer than usual), what I thought were period pains/cramps. Is all this normal?

I'm so so worried that I'm going to miscarry! I'm still very nauseas, but all I have read is that it's not normal this early on. It is definitely not a bug or anything like that, and I'm pretty sure I'm not further along than I thought as my periods have been so regular. I'm still having cramps every now and then, although they have died down these past few days. Any advice would be much appreciated. Just can't stop worrying!

Very normal, I was sick at that stage too and had cramps, convinced AF was on its way! congrats on your pregnancy, enjoy Flowers

I had cramps all the way up until about 10 weeks. It's your body getting prepared etc.

As for the nausea I had this between 6-9 weeks and then completely stopped. Ive only actually vomited twice and I'm now 22 weeks! Everyone is different, some people have sickness the whole way through, some have none at all.

I thought AF was coming for about 8 days before the BFG and then for about 4 weeks afterwards! then when the cramps stopped, I worried about that too....

it sounds very normal, but just try as best you can to relax. remember that you are far far far more likely to be fine than not, but you can't influence it either way. all you can do is be happy and take care of yourself.

Cramps are totally normal, I had them for about 2 weeks from the day AF was due. Pretty painful too, there was one day I was on the sofa for a few hours. My MW said its totally normal, the uterus is expanding and all your muscles are adapting ready for housing a baby. Nausea is totally normal during pregnancy, usually it tapers off after 14 weeks, but it some cases it can carry on all the way through.

If you experience bleeding and cramps at the same time, or if you are so nauseous you can't keep anything down and are throwing up multiple times a day, get to your gp or the hospital, as either scenario can lead to serious issues. Otherwise, I'm afraid it's totally normal, but it WILL pass, I can promise you that!
