Waters going or wet myself?

Hi all, I'm 38 1/2 weeks pregnant with dc2 and while walking about the shops I felt very wet. Went to bathroom and I went to wee and managed to stop, so I'm confused.

With ds1 my waters went while on the toilet and kept going so not sure if I have just had a slight accident or my waters are going slowly.

I've had no show (didn't get on last time) but bump feels very different less full and hard. Not had any contractions either. Maybe I've just wet myself?

God how embarrassing xx

Mine went like that with DS! Went to the toilet and was able to stop myself (after a massively long wee that clearly wasn't a wee!).

Get thee to the midwives to be checked!

And report back.

Thanks for your replies. Called triage and they said only come in if reduced movements or more loss of water. I'm now at a soft play area with ds1 so I'm sure if it were my waters they will go more today while here :)

Hmm. That seems like strange advice. You need to know for sure if they've gone.

That's odd advice. I thought they told you to lay down for 30 minutes (hard work with a toddler, I appreciate) then stand up and see if any more comes out.

That really is odd.

If your waters HAVE gone, you need to know as if labour doesn't start naturally you may need to be induced due to risk of infection.

If they refuse to see you I'd be tempted to go in and say you not feeling baby moved so they have to check you out.

Really? let me give them another call and see what they say. I havent had any more leaks but I have been going to the toilet a lot.

Without sounding crude, have you smelt it? Your waters have a very distinctive smell!

cant get through to triage now :(

Keep calling. They absolutely need to establish whether or not it's actually your waters. If it is, you need inducing within 24-48 hours.

It could be slow leakage of your waters. You need to get it checked, and at least have some monitoring done. I had waters go before anything else in two out of my three deliveries. With DD1 it was a huge whoosh which kept on flooding and flooding. With DD3 it began much as you describe - little trickles at first, making one particular hospital doctor not believe me that it WAS my waters (I knew it was), and then gradually working up later to another huge whoosh that wouldn't stop. I was at the hospital when the whoosh happened then, and that doctor soon changed her tune.

If the waters do go without labour really beginning then it can cause some problems, including potential infection and sometimes cord compression. Believe me, I had it all with DD3.

By calling triage, you don't mean A & E do you? Can you not call your delivery unit and speak to a midwife?

Also, just in case it is your waters, ensure that they are clear and odourless.

If they are green, or if any remaining ones turn green then get to the hospital and insist on being checked out. Green waters can be a sign of foetal distress (meconium in them), and the baby can need to be delivered.

I'm going to triage tonight. Oh has just got home so my sister is going to come over a keep and eye on ds1 while he is asleep.

My hind waters went & it was just like you describe - I did not know, mentioned it to a MW as was in having daily bp check & trace & she was kind but laughed a little & said why did not I call/say something earlier. She did a check & said it was hind waters. I was induced 24 hours later & more waters went in labour which was much more dramatic & what I expected the first time.

If it is not waters - don't worry either

False alarm.......cervix closed and no fluid. But head down and nearly engaged.

Well I think it's safe to say my pelvic floors are shoot. :) x

Glad to hear you were seen. Did find that to be strange advice. When my hind waters went (I woke in the night to pee and found my pj's were wet however still needing to pee) I was asked to go in for a quick swab investigation. A little cough and it was confirmed as waters. I had a very slow leak with no flow, just dampnes. When my waters did go it was like a water balloon inside me had popped.

Some anecdotal evidence! I was regularly leaking wee for the last few weeks of my first pregnancy. Thought my pelvic floor had gone but it must have just been pressure of baby on bladder because within days of birth, pelvic floor was back to normal and shortly after that, stronger than ever. Keep squeezing

never thanks for the advice when i went in the midwife was like oh no we should see you if suspected waters breaking, they were really nice and didnt make me feel silly for coming in......in and out in 1 hour which was a bonus.

guy the midwife did say it could be the pressure of his head, I hope so :) rather than my pelvic floor.
