I have got my GTT on Tuesday and am really worried as have to fast for 12 hours before and I'm normally really really hungry when I wake up, am worried I'll be sick or pass out from not eating till lunchtime. I'm sure it's fine as lots of people do it but can't anyone who has had it out my mind at rest?

I've had it loads of time whilst pregnant and not and it's never been a problem. Have a normal dinner. Then go to bed. Yes you'll have to skip breakfast but then you'll get the sugary drink which will give you some energy and take a snack to have once the final blood test is done.

I was exactly the same. You have bloods took, then drink lucozade which made me a bit shaky then you wait two hours and have bloods done again. I was starving and left and went to seaside (centre was local to seaside) for fish and chips and an icecream.
Treat yourself afterwards Smile take a book or a friend so the two hours pass quickly and your not focusing on food

That's great thank you, I know I'm just worrying unnecessarily but can't help it, always seems to be something else Smile

I have this next month and I'm very anxious about not getting to eat...I am ravenous every morning and need to eat breakfast (even when not pregnant!). I am sure on the day it will be fine though! Hope your test goes well whittle :)

sianihedgehog · 18/05/2015 11:22

I had mine today, but it was first thing in the morning and I'm not usually a breakfast person so getting the lucozade down was actually a challenge!!

whittlefish · 18/05/2015 11:35

Yeah I hate lucozade so am worried it will make me sick on an empty stomach. Still guess it can't be too bad... I hope

I had this fear as well because had my first test at 14 weeks in my last pregnancy and was still be sick fairly regularly. It was fine though and I wasn't sick at all in the crucial bit after lucozade.

FlumptyDumpty · 18/05/2015 12:50

I had this and was worried because I can get really faint and sick if I get too hungry. I had to fast from midnight, so had a snack about 10 mins before the deadline. I actually wasn't too hungry next day, but I did have a large early lunch as soon as I could afterwards. However, eating just before bed led to bad reflux as soon as I layed down to sleep.... The test itself was less horrid than I thought it would be. I did feel a bit tired and sick but was told to drink more water and that helped.

Had it today. It's not pleasant, but after a big lunch, I'm ok. I'm sure you'll be fine. Take a good book!

cathpip · 18/05/2015 12:56

I'm having mine tomorrow, last time I took a sandwich to eat afterwards and I also fell asleep on the rather comfy sofa, midwives came and woke me when they needed me. :)

I was really worried about this too- I'd been feeling sick and faint anyway and the thought of being hungry too was a nightmare. It had been a bit unpleasant with ds so this time I;
-asked for them to use my "easy" vein second (with ds they struggled to get the second bloods and had used my "best" vein for the first round of bloods and could get in again).

  • In my area they had a Lucozade one but also an orange or cola one. The orange one was ok.
-Asked to lie down to do the bloods, open the window. -I froze some bottles of water so I had something cold to put on my forehead. When it melted a bit I was also allowed to sip it. -I had a late meal and took some fruit and cereal bars to eat straight away. -Stay at the surgery until you feel ok- with ds I set of home and nearly keeled over in the car park!

I know it sounds a bit OTT but I really was worried about fainting and throwing up. In actual fact it was fine this time- still felt a bit woozy but the ice bottle was really good.
