Worried - High temperature at 12 weeks

My friend is 11.5wks, 3rd pg, and has a high temperature of 38.8 (up & down last two days). She's spoken to NHS direct who just advised paracetomol and to see how she feels, go to GP if necessary. The paracetomol does seem to help, but she's very worried. Her 1st pg resulted in 6wks premature delivery after a Listeria infection and high temperature (thankfully all was ok and our first borns are best friends, how we met). She also lost second baby at 6wks after a high temperature. I'm so worried about her. She's also contending with a blood clot in the uterus this time round too so has the stress of on and off spotting.

Any advice on what she can do to keep the temperature down (other than cold flanels on forehead and paracetomol)?

Also, has anyone been in this situation before and have positive stories that I can pass on?

Any help/advice would be greatly received.

How are things? Hope all is ok. Bumping for you.

Hi mumf1aft. Thanks for replying and helping bump this!

My friend rang late last night, temp had gone back up to over 39 I'm still waiting to hear from her this morning. It's been over 38 for two days now. I really feel for her. Everything I read on the web about prolonged high temps during pregnancy (hyperthermia) has not been good (won't comment any further as she does browse mn but not post) so I really want some positive stories to tell her, but unfortunately it doesn't look like anyone's been in this situation (which is good in one respect!)

99, lets hope your friend is feeling better this morning. Anyone else on Mumsnet have any advice?

has she seen her GP? if the paracetomal and flannels not working, she should see her doc...might have an infection ..which might need antibiotics....illness in pregnancy, esp, early on, should be checked on IMO...unlikely to affect the baby, but she needs to feel well....given her circumstances , a trip to the docs should be considered........xx

Hi all, yes, she went to the GP this morning and he's prescribed antibiotics, the course lasts a week. It seems to be one that is allowed when pregnant. Thanks for the support.
