Baby toy advice needed!

I've just been out to buy a fisher price soothe and glow seahorse for when the baby arrives. However I just read a horrible article online about they should be recalled due to a fire risk. Anyone had any problems or could recommend a similar soothing toy for a baby that's safe?

I heard Ewan the sheep is a good one?

Ime these types of toy are a gimmick, babies, especially newborns, have no interest in them and would rather be cuddled/rocked/sang to.

We were given the seahorse when DD was born and it is very cute and the tune is quite nice but I think she preferred the Ewan the Sheep dottie mentions as a small baby. It has a heartbeat and womb sound option as well as white noise which I think is more soothing for a newborn.

Although I think that orangutanhihio has it spot on and they really just want to be snuggled in to you! That said, my DD (who is now nearly 2.5) asks for the "Sheepy Song" at bedtime still so it can become part of your bedtime routine.
