Hi all,

I want to get a early/reassure scan as I have had a little line of bleeding when I wipe over the last few days (3 times over 4-5 days), apart from that I havent had too many pregnancy symptons apart from cramps now and again and initially i had saw boobs.

The first day of my last period was 1st April but I have irregular periods. Does this confuse the weeks in terms of how long i have to wait until i can get a early scan? How many weeks would people say i am.

Thanks in advance

Bleeding in pregnancy is never normal. It's common and has lots of benign causes. It isn't "normal" though.

madreloco · 19/05/2015 21:27

Tiny streaks of blood when you wipe in the very earliest days are totally normal. That isn't "bleeding".

lauraa4 · 19/05/2015 21:31

I never experienced any bleeding in early pregnancy yet even if I had noticed a tiny amount I would definitely have got it checked out, but I do agree that bleeding or any bloody type discharge doesn't necessarily mean anything bad.

I think when it's your first pregnancy or if you've had previous miscarriage etc you will automatically be quite panicky and unsure of what's normal so it's good to ask.

Amyyy27 · 19/05/2015 21:34

madreloco once again please stop giving incorrect stupid advice.

OP sorry to hear about the bleeding, I know how stressful it is. Your GP will refer you for any bleeding no matter when in pregnancy , but that doesn't mean anything is wrong it is just precautionary. As for the tests try not to worry, different times of day, strength of wee and the tests themselves can cause lines to be fainter/darker. Hope you are able to be seen soon and everything's ok x

madreloco · 19/05/2015 21:39

Its not. The stupid and incorrect advice is for anyone who sees a single blood cell to start getting early scans and appointments that are actually needed by other people.
You aren't helping people by telling them they have problems they don't have. Slightly red discharge is NOT BLEEDING.

Amyyy27 · 19/05/2015 21:43

Blimey where are you getting that from? If there is any amount of blood there it is bleeding. There are many people including myself who have had a very small amount of blood and miscarried. You should always get checked out for any kind of bleed. It doesn't mean that something has gone wrong but it is possible which is why you should always be checked out!

lauraa4 · 19/05/2015 21:43

I think the point amy was trying to make is that you can give your advice but try not to be so rude and blunt in your comment.

Try and remember that there are some ladies on here who are very scared and anxious about things like this and making them feel like they are stupid is not fair. No one is saying it could be anything bad simply that if it's worrying her then to get it checked out.

Let the EPU decide whether it's 'stupid'.

chopsface · 20/05/2015 17:39

Its nice to have our minds put at ease as stress is not good for our health. I know that all these early reassurance scans must be costly on the nhs but making someone feel better and relax is priceless. I was anxious about this pregnancy as it took years to get here so I booked a private early scan even with no symptoms. But when you read about missed misscarriage which have no signs sometimes you do worry.

I hope you're ok Darren please update us, there are a lot if concerned ladies here x

just to counteract some advice being given. in my first pregnancy i spotted, wouldnt have even said it was red tbh or even a lot not long from when i found out until at 9 weeks i had what i would call a light bleed. a scan the next day confirmed that the baby had stopped developing at 5 weeks.

please dont automatically assume the worst tho daren i also had a bleed a bit like a nose bleed at 9wk in this pregnancy and assumed the worst had happened. i am typing this 18wks pg whilst airing my huge bump as i seemed to have gotten a heat or stretch rash all over it.

i hope everything is ok.

darrenwis · 20/05/2015 19:50

sorry to hijack the thread darren, ive been following this thread silently i really hope everything goes well for you Thanks x , I'm just in a similar situation and really worried. .started bleeding last night with light cramp first and then a pain down my right side the pain has now completey gone but there is still a bit of blood every so often when i wipe (TMI, sorry) im only 4 weeks and my period would normally be due around this time i only got a new drs yesterday as ive moved house and i dont know what to do next any ideas? i feel fine now should i just see what happens.. thanks Smile

gingerbreadmam · 21/05/2015 11:21

miss i would speak to your gp surgery. are you 4 weeks e.g. its 4 weeks since your last lmp?

unfortunately i think at 4 weeks theres not a lot anyone could do, i dont think anything would show on a scan and the term that would be used if the pregnancy was failing is a chemical pregnancy. i dont know much about them but if you google hopefull you will get a little more information. hope everything is ok. Thanks

MissMartin1992 · 21/05/2015 11:46

ginger thanks for replying. . i have had no more 'pain' and there is no bleeding just a bit of brown stuff left over which is usually old blood isn't it?. . i dno if it could be breakthrough bleeding or implantation maybe? ive just done a pregnancy test again and it changed positive straight away and showed the strongest line ive ever had ... why is it so confusing Confused how are you darren ? Thanks

gingerbreadmam · 21/05/2015 12:01

it could be implantation. tbh i would keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. they do say if it brown blood its nothing to worry about.

it is so confusing as u can get cramps and stuff in pregnancy too with everything expanding etc.

will keep everything crossed for you!

MissMartin1992 · 21/05/2015 16:42

darrenwis · 21/05/2015 20:47

Hi all,

Just to update, had a scan this morning and they put me at 6 weeks not 7 as I thought, but the great thing is things looked normal and there was a heart beat! Long time to go until 12 week scan now but can relax a little.

Thanks everyone, been a great help! Star
