Hi does anybody know what they are looking for on a potty shot and care to take a guess, think I need reassurance before I buy anything :)

I'm guessing a potty shot is up through the legs?!?! If so I think a girl. I had a similar position of scan and I could Defo see a willy.

Have bought lots of whites and creams, going to keep it neutral as can't be 100% until the birth, bought a couple of pink sleepers! Yes Number they did, I just keep hearing these stories of ladies who have been told one sex and given birth to another. :)

El Quinto that is hilarious, I can actually see what you mean by crocodile Grin Google Potty shot scans. It's bacially a shot of the back of the baby's thighs, bottom and genital area

'Potty shot' is an American term for a scan image of a baby's genital area.

Koala, it's quite easy to see in the op's pic but only if you know what you're looking for (and why would most people tbh?). That picture is a direct shot of in between the baby's legs. On the left of the picture the two big areas which somebody says look like a crocodile's mouth are the backs of the baby's legs/thighs. The rounded bit on the right hand side is the baby's bottom. The whole genital area is on display. The three white lines are characteristic of a girl's genitals. With a boy you can see the scrotum and penis instead.

When I had my scan with DS not only could you see very easily that he was a boy, you could see his bladder emptying, the fluid moving through the penis and little bubbles going into the amniotic fluid.

Modern scans are amazing.

Our hospital had just had brand new machines when I was pregnant with DS. They were 24hrs old when I had my 20 week scan and compared to his big sister's scans a couple of years beforehand, it was incredible.
