Gender scan- were they right?

For those of you with kids, who'd chosen to find out the baby's gender at 20wk scan- were they right?

I know they tell you that its not 100% correct but I'm wondering in how many cases were they actually wrong? Were you told you're having one only to actually give birth to the other gender??

I've been told its a boy... Don't think its wrong as saw it for myself. But just curious :) Right or wrong in your case?

DC1 - Yes (told at 12 weeks)
DC2 - Yes (told at 12 weeks)
DC3 - Told boy at 18 weeks, 20 weeks, 24 weeks, 28 weeks and 30 weeks.

Due in 9 weeks time, so assuming he will still be a boy then Grin

I have two girls and both scanned right at 20 weeks.

Friend at work was expecting a girl from 20 week scan and was surprised by a little boy.

Yes, told a girl, which was correct

lottiegarbanzo · 11/05/2015 16:09

If they can see balls it's a boy. If they can't they might not be sure.

OhHolyFuck · 11/05/2015 16:11

Had two sexing scans where they said boys and they were right both times, 2 DSs

Augustwedding · 11/05/2015 16:11

Told at 17 weeks it's a boy, confirmed at 20 weeks!

Ilovenannyplum · 11/05/2015 16:21

Was told boy at 16 week scan, still a boy at 20 weeks and I've definitely got a little boy fast asleep on me now Smile

ProbablyMe · 11/05/2015 16:28

DS's 1, 2 and 3 - all accurate

DS4 - originally told he was a girl by two consultant obstetricians who scanned me jointly for 3/4 hour, I had dreams for a fortnight or so where I had a girl that turned into a boy before I got the results of my 21 week amnio (suspected Edwards, wasn't Smile) which confirmed he was definitely a he!

Whatabout · 11/05/2015 16:36

Last time I popped out a boy instead of a girl. This one waved his willy like a flag!

Ava50x · 12/05/2015 13:35

Thanks for sharing!! I see in most cases it is accurate anyway...

ProbablyMe- interesting that you dreamed she turned into a boy- looks like there is something deep down that mothers know best!

I'm hoping they didn't make a mistake with mine. I'm 24+3 with DC1 and would like to start shopping for some basics soon!! LOL :)

I think the general consensus is that if they say it's a boy, then they obviously see "stuff" protruding between kegs. And that's alwYs right. You don't see stuff that doesn't exist.

But if they say girl it's less sure as technically there could still be stuff hidden away.

Incidentally we were told boy an hour ago. Well, clearly saw the penis and the giant balls. We had done 4 old wives takes/tests at home, all had said girl!

Ava50x · 12/05/2015 14:15

Hey, focusfocus!! All the tests I had taken said girl, but scan very clearly showed boy!!!

Looks like they really are old wives tales!!

We had a private scan at 16 weeks. They said two girls and we have twin girls.

Given have a friend who was told boy and had a girl so they aren't always correct that way around.
