Femur Length????

Just been for my 28+1wk scan
States Femur Length is 53mm

What is Femur Length? And what is average at this stage?

Having to ask questions like this on here as hospital staff so rude & unhelpful when asked any kind of question!

Isn't it on your growth chart? It is the length of the thigh bone.

For comparison my baby had a 30 mm length femur at 20 weeks and a 43mm (i think) at 24 weeks. Me and my OH both have 30 inch inside legs so our baby has no hope of long legs

they femur to check growth, like they do head and tummy. I am sure if there was a problem they would've told you

24+4 weeks 34mm
28+4 weeks 52mm
30+1 weeks 58.3mm

So 53mm at 28 weeks is perfect

I am 5ft 3, OH is 6ft

Your femur is the thigh bone. They measure this because some growth disorders (dwarfism for example) will show a very reduced femur length. Other things like chromosome abnormalities and bone disorders can show this way too.

However.... Don't get worried if it's just a little bit outside the normal range! Dwarfism for example tends to show as 2 or 3 standard deviations below the mean, NOT as just a little off the ideal. We are all different shapes, and sizes as adults, and in the womb too.

Your doctor would have told you if any abnormalities had been picked up. Your measurement actually sounds spot on, so don't fret.

No wasn't written on what femur length is. I'm surprised it's 53mm then considering I'm only 4'10 but Husband is 5'6. So bubba is hopefully going that way which is good
