Hi. I'm 11 weeks pregnant. Have my 12 week scan a week on Tuesday and I'm dreading it. I had a scan at 8 weeks as had cramping, everything was fine and we saw heartbeat, was told the cramping was uterus expanding. I've never really had any symptoms and I feel fine. I had sore breasts till about 8 weeks, no morning sickness only gaged when brushing my teeth and a little constipated. I'm worried my lack of symptoms could mean mmc.

Not sure of the actual stats but I'm sure a heartbeat at 8 weeks carries a high likelihood of the pregnancy succeeding. The chances are everything is fine. I had bleeding at 8-9 weeks and didn't get offered a scan, and all was ok at 12 weeks. Try not to worry xx

Thanks. I have read once heartbeat is seen the odds are good. I think I'm worried more as I had a miscarriage 3 years ago at 9 weeks and all was ok at 8 week scan. I've had no bleeding or anything. Just trying to think maby I'm a lucky one with not many symptoms x

I had a scan at 6 weeks and another at 9 and was a wreck before both of them and I was pretty nervous for the 12 week one as well. Because I had no symptoms either - sore boobs but nothing else - no tiredness or nausea or any of the things that we are 'supposed' to have, I also was convinced it was a bad sign and everything had gone wrong.

But I am 19 weeks now and in my last scan a week ago everything was perfect - so no symptoms is definitely not an indicator of mmc. If you Google (which I did a lot) then you will find lots of stories of people who had no symptoms and they had mmcs. But then you will find lots where people had all the symptoms under the sun and also had mmcs. So symptoms or no symptoms really doesn't mean much at all - but it definitely means you shouldn't worry about lack of them. I still feel totally normal now so now that I am happy all is going well I just feel very lucky!

I am sure all will be great at your scan and you will be so relieved afterwards Smile

Hi, I have my scan this week and am terrified too! The prospect of a mmc is pretty horrific. I googled and googled and googled mmc and wound myself up endlessly, but then I read a post by a woman who had miscarried and she pointed out that all the worry in the world won't stop it from happening and chances are everything is OK. I'm not sure why the 'there is nothing you can do' msg was a comfort but it was/is! I'm still nervous for Thursday tho and can guarantee little sleep that night.

I was the same - early scan after a tiny bleed and then no symptoms til 12 week scan. I was a nervous wreck but there was a dancing bean.

The sonographer said to me, "it looks good but nobody can guarantee anything at this stage. Just relax and enjoy it." Wise words if you can stick to them (I MOSTLY did!).

Thanks. These messages have relaxed me a little. A week feels so far away. I will update either way X

I had a good scan at 8 weeks then MMC discovered at 12 week scan. I was still having full pregnancy symptoms (second pregnancy so I knew what had been normal for me previously). Symptoms or a lack of them are no indication of what's actually happening in there, in the case of a MMC your body doesn't realise that the baby has died so it's still producing the pregnancy hormones.

I read up about it all when I fell pregnant again, and it's less than 1% chance of MMC following successful 8 week scan. That subsequent pregnancy went perfectly for me and she's now fast a asleep upstairs :)

Thanks for the reply's. My mind has been eased a little and I guess I will know for sure next week. I haven't really had many symptoms at all, my midwife said some people don't. Next week can't come soon enough x

Easy for me to say, don't worry!! I had horrendous cramps but everything was fine, I just get implantation pains. I expect thats what yours were.

applecore0317 · 10/05/2015 20:35

I had an early reassurance scan at 8+3, as was also concerned by lack of symptoms. I am now 37+4. It's quite common to have only a few symptoms, try not to worry too much, easier said than done I know.

applecore0317 · 10/05/2015 20:36

Oh and the pains I had were stretching pains and also some trapped wind.

1984gemma · 10/05/2015 20:57

Midwife said the pains were stretching pains and the scan did reassure me, I'm just getting nervous again.
Thanks for all the reply's they have really helped ease my mind X

Good luck, you've already had one scan and all looked fine so I really wouldn't worry. And ignore people who say that bad symptoms mean a healthy baby! It doesn't matter whether you have terrible sickness or none at all, your baby is as likely to be healthy as anyone else's! I had nausea but no sickness, and apart from 2 weeks of constant nausea, have had a pretty easy pregnancy. 12 week scan was great, they put my EDD forward a week so I guess baby was growing well, and I got to hear the heartbeat last week at my 16 week appt, and it was kicking about a lot in there!

Stretching pains are apparently normal, they took me by surprise too, no-one had ever told me about that, but they will subside, I had them pretty bad for about 10 days after my BFP, but apart from the odd little twinge now and then I don't get much at all.

Let us know how it goes on the day!

Amyyy27 · 11/05/2015 09:54

Hi gemma, Just wanted to say good luck for your scan!

I learned the hard way that having all the symptoms in the world is not a sign of a healthy baby (despite everyone telling me so) after an mmc last year. This year we were so worried about losing the baby we booked a private scan at 8 weeks (I had no symptoms at all to start with) baby was fine but still worried myself sick before my 12 week scan. I prepared for the worst so I was in total shock to see a very wriggly baby in there!

I hope you get so see a lovely healthy baby too :) Please let us know how it goes x

Thanks I will update. Currently waiting for a call from the doctor to see if they will scan me early as I had some brown discharge when wiping last night. I had the same atime 8 weeks, so I'm worrying even more now x
