Can you tell if your baby is a boy or girl from the scan picture?

My sister and I are both having babies - mine is due 29 Jan and her's is due 22 March. We haven't found out the sex of the babies but have been scutinising the scan pictures for clues. My sister's boyfriend said that he had heard that if there is a white dot on the screen, that means it is a boy. Does anyone know if this is true?

a whit dot??
as in that the scan machine prints with all you name and EDD etc ot part of the baby's picture?

I'b PG with my 4th and have never heard of that, I will have 4 boys when this baby is born in january (come and join our due in Jan thread) and have never seen a dot on the baby or made by the machine.

It's another thing entirely when they roll the scanny thingy over your bump and it shows between the babys leg and it very clearly visible that it's a boy IYSWIM

I don't think you can tell just from a normal scan, would need to be a between the legs shot, when i was 11 weeks thw midwife pointed out two white dots just below the babies belly area, and said that pointed towards a boy. you cant tell for sure till after 16 weeks, However got a 3D scan at 20 weeks and is indeed a boy, i think that was just luck though as she had a 50'50 chance of getting it right at that stage! congrats on your pregnancies xx

white lines indicate a girl and a willy & scrotum a boy!! and that is when you have a good look between the babies legs...not a side on view from a print out!!!! nothing to my knowledge about dots! you tend to see a proper set of boy bits.....

both my 20 weeks scans revealed the sex of the baby.....by the sonographer checking carefully between the legs for a few minutes.....i have had a boy and a girl and not seen dots!

Thanks for the feedback. I thought the white dot bit sounded a bit odd. Shall have to ask the midwife what the heart rate is and speculate that way instead! In your experience was there any truth in the low/higher heart rate/ boy/girl thing? Here I go again....

I don't think theres much truth in it too be honest, all these old wives tales are fun, like the wedding ring on the string, and the chinese calander, but the only way to find out is by ultrasound ,(or amnio which is 100%, but not done for this purpose only),I've found out that i'm having a boy by paying for a private ultrasound, and i'm still having dreams that he is a she, so guess we never really know for sure until theyare born!!
