On Monday morning I had painful cramps which lasted about half hour & were brought on by BM (pain made me sick). Mw said not pg related possibly IBS/constipation.

On Tuesday & Thursday (after sex in am) I had cramps which although painful, weren't as bad as Monday & didn't last that long. Today though I had 2 waves of painful cramps which made me come home. They always happen around midday & I feel better after having something to eat & drink and just resting and sometimes after peeing!

Is this normal early pg cramping or signs of something scary? The midday thing is making me think hunger/thirst related; is this a thing?

How many weeks are you? I'm 12 weeks and due to have my scan next week. I've had cramping throughout. There's lots of growing and stretching going on. I've been at the point where I've thought it was so like period pains that I've gone to the toilet expecting to see blood.

Could you phone your hospital dept and ask for an early reassurance scan? I had one at 7 weeks.

I had something at around 14-16 weeks that sound a lot like what you are experiencing. I never found out what they were, and they usually happened when I needed to go to the loo, so I assumed it was either bowel related or something irritating/pressing (uterus?) on my bowels. Either way, when it did happen - and it only happened 3 times - it was so ubnearably plainful that I had to run to the loo (and I'm an IBS pro, so I can take bowel cramps, but this was something else).

It hasn't happened since, so I can only imagine that it was something transient to do with that specific stage of pregnancy. If you are at all worried, don't be afraid to mention it to a midwife or GP and if you're sure it's not constipation (the GP's usual first-line answer to all pg-related bowel issues) then don't be afraid to let them know that it could be something else.

Hey wispy & mrsanxiety

LMP puts me as 8+5 but I have long cycles so I'm thinking I'm less than that. I've got booking in appointment on Monday so will mention to mw, I'd very much like reassurance it's not ectopic. Although if it was ectopic it would be so intense I couldn't carry on as I am and it'd be constant?

I had the odd cramping at your stage. Also sometimes during or after sex, think its just ligaments and muscles to be honest.. As long as there's no bleeding
I'm now 30 weeks.
Good luck and congrats! Smile

Thanks Heather! I know mild & moderate is normal but I think I'm more crazy with overthinking things in first trimester as when I was ttc Wink. No bleeding thank god but it's so sore it does send me running to the loo to check!
