Pregnacare giving me bad bowels

Hi I'm 15+2 today and having been taking pregnacare up since getting BFP.

However, my bowel movements have been very loose for ages (sorry got TMI). I even had a blood test with gp to see if there was a problem but they didn't find anything. I'm thinking it may be pregnacare? Anybody had a similar experience? Also I was thinking of trying a different pregancy vitamin. Any suggestions?

Thanks xx

Hi,

Sorry to hear of your troubles, I have also posted about vitamins today as I just start to take mine. So really just wanted to let you know that they have deals on in asda atm and I bought Seven Sea's - 3 months for £10!

Hope you are feeling better soon! Flowers

Some people have had problems with Pregnacare, I'd suggest trying without and see what happens. Tbh, your bowels will go completely haywire anyway during pregnancy, it may or may not be related. The general advice for vitamins is folic acid with vit D. My local surgery has them available, not sure if that's a standard thing, or try pharmacies or Holland & Barrett.

Pregnacare made me sick, they didn't suit me at all. Worth trying others to see if you feel better.

Pregnacare and Boots version made me yuck.

I stopped taking all supplements and ate a healthy diet from 12 weeks.

I've had an upset stomach (not full on diarrhoea - just upset) on and off since around 10 weeks - I'm now 23. I was taking pregnacare vitamins but it started before then, when I was just on folic acid. Ruled out food intolerances/allergies. Spoke to my midwife who said it's perfectly normal and some people just suffer with it - it just doesn't get as much of a mention as constipation!

lauraa4 · 06/05/2015 13:08

I've had bowel problems but the other way - not being able to go for days! I have been told that the iron in pregnacare can make you constipated so yes there may be something in it that is making your stomach upset.

Why don't you try something else for a week and see if it makes any difference?

seriouslynonames · 06/05/2015 14:22

i find the Boots own brand folic acid +vitamin d (in one tablet, small silver grey pot) is good and doesn't affect bowels - I have irritable bowel normally so doesn't take much to affect me!

I have been suffering alternately with constipation punctuated by the occasional day or two of much looser bowels, which isn't that unusual for me, but as others have said, pregnancy can just upset your bowels - frustrating as that is!

Thank you for the replies everyone. I think I'll try another pregnancy multivitamin. I think I normally do have IBS too and pregnancy has exacerbated the symptoms.

I have been eating really healthily so might stop all together if another brand don't suit either. I can't remember having this with DD(4) - perhaps I've blanked it out!?

Xxx

Hi, just to add that I had this problem too and it turned out to be iron in my supplement. Try taking just folic acid and vit D for a bit and see if it improves?

Bluepetra · 06/05/2015 21:57

I had the same reaction and had to stop taking them. Flood acid is fine though. I have severe IBS so think the triggered it.

happybunny2014 · 06/05/2015 22:02

I had this problem this time with pregnacare. Made me feel rubbish and I had a bad gut. Had taken it in my first pregnancy with no worries but this pregnancy its just not suited. Try another brand maybe? Hope you feel better soon.

MummyPiggy87 · 06/05/2015 22:26

Agree with above, pregnacare made me sick and made the trapped wind situation 10x worse. I stopped taking them and now just have flux acid and try and get my vitamins through eating fruit and veg.

MummyPiggy87 · 06/05/2015 22:26

Folic acid, not flux acid wtf is that lol

MummyPiggy87 · 06/05/2015 22:28

bluepetra flood acid? Haha at least I wasn't the only one spell check caught out! GrinGrin

ChablisTyrant · 06/05/2015 22:28

It gave me the same problems. GP told me to stop taking it and replace with 2 bowels of fortified breakfast cereal a day. Minerals less hard on gut when wrapped in food apparently.

tattyteddy · 07/05/2015 07:43

Thanks everyone. I've an appointment with obstetrician tomorrow morning so will speak to them. Defo can try a different brand and see how that suits. I remember having take iron tablets with DD as my iron levels were really low but can't remember the bowel situation!

Thanks for the replies everyone, I really appreciate you taking the time to respond x
