Hi all, this is my first post after lurking on the 2ww threads for, well, about 2 weeks!
This was my first month trying and yesterday I got a faint positive line on 2 ultra early pregnancy tests, after feeling v sick all day at work. I took another test this morning and it's still faint (maybe even fainter) but it's there. I've had a bad night with nausea and cramping.
Anyway, I know cps are really common this early on (now 13 dpo) but what should I be doing to increase the chances of a successful pregnancy at this v early stage?

I know nothing - I just read something about folic acid and now I'm panicking cos I haven't been taking any.

I'm a vegetarian - are there other things I should be taking?

When are you supposed to tell gp?

Is cramping usual for these first few days or a bad sign?

Is there anything I can do for the nausea? (I couldn't eat breakfast or lunch yesterday and so far this morning I'm still feeling v sick.

I'm sorry for all the questions!!! Just panicking because I feel so unprepared!

I didn't take folic acid before conceiving as I wasn't planning to get pregnant. I just started taking it when I found out. I am a vegetarian and have two children- I didn't take anything else, I needed iron tablets towards the end of second pregnancy following a blood test, but nothing at all in first.

Both my pregnancies began with me convinced my period was about to start due to cramping-that is fairly common based on my friends' experiences.

Hi nishky, thank you! That's reassuring :) I'll try and get to a pharmacy asap for folic acid!

I found out early on (now 5+5) and I've had cramping for the last week. It's very common as your uterus is changing so try not to worry. I've been taking Pregnacare supplements as they have folic acid, vitamin D and lots of other good nutrients such as iodine. My lines were very faint at first - they gradually get stronger as your hormones build.
Congratulations!

You can get folic acid at any supermarket not just the pharmacy.

I didn't take it until 8 weeks pregnant as I didn't know! If you go to the doctors and tell them they won't retest they just take your word for it, they will give you a prescription for folic acid there too.

I had my first doctors appointment at 8 weeks and it took a minute in and out, first midwife app at 11 weeks so bit of a wait!

Congrats to you :)

Start the folic acid now - I also take the pregnacare as it has iron and other things in it - and just be happy! You can't do anything at this stage other than take care of yourself and eat well. I'm vegetarian too, but have been eating fish whilst pregnant, lots of nuts, greens etc. and lots of skimmed milk.

And lots of carbs and chocolate too. But let's not go there eh?!?

Congratulations!!

Thanks all! Feeling slightly less panicky today! Picked up some folic acid and I've ordered some pregnacare, and I've found out the nearest GP so I can register. I just didn't expect to conceive the first month, so it's somewhat thrown me. And it's really bizarre not being able to ask advice from anyone I know. Think I'll be living on this forum for the next few months...

I just hope the little bean clings on!

And congratulations to all of you too :)
