Where should the baby sleep?!

I'm overwhelmed by all the options! We've got an ikea cot but I think we need something smaller for the first few weeks/months. What are you all using? A Moses basket, cocoons baby, piddle pod?!?!

I remember bringing my son home and for the first week he slept in his pram in the lounge whilst one of us guarded him and the other got some sleep haha. How silly we were.

One night we decided that was silly and to take him into our room and put him in his cotbed. He didn't like that. Much screaming ensued.

In the end I brought him into bed with me for a few days whilst my husband built a side along cosleeper. Once he was 6 months old we transitioned him into his cot by the side of the bed and then into his own room.

Be prepared for baby to refuse to sleep in the 'designated baby sleeping place' . Go with the flow!

DD slept in a Moses basket next to our bed until 12 weeks. By then she was too big for it and had to go into her cot. She instantly started to sleep better with more space!

Ours hasn't arrived yet but we have (hand-me-down) Moses basket to start with. Hope baby likes it as we haven't bought a proper cot yet! Don't want to cosleep as i feel uneasy about it and DH has epilepsy so I don't think it would be safe, but as PP said I think going with the flow is key so if it comes to that I'll banish him to the spare room, I guess!

We have an ikea cot bed for dd too. I didn't bother with anything else. Dd slept in the pram at first and then I would put the pram top on the ottoman at the end of our bed at night. I never needed a moses basket or pod etc. I do live in a bungalow though so it was easy to just move her about in the pram.

I started to put her in her cot for daytime naps first from about 6 weeks and gradually increased it. She's 7 months now and I'm debating if I need to lower the base of the cot yet. She sleeps really well.

I would suggest you don't spend too much on whatever you decide. We have a moses basket and a crib for DD, and she hates both of them with a passion. She's currently sleeping in the pram - we take the top section to our room at night. Luckily we bought both the moses basket and the crib second hand (new matresses) as they can be so expensive new and it would have been annoying to have spent a fortune for her to refuse to use either of them!

We were lent a rocking crib and both babies have hated it. Both went into the cot after a few days.
Second baby liked the pram for the first 2 months but then it was too small for her to sleep in.

You only need something smaller if the cot doesn't fit in your bedroom and you want the baby in your room. (it's much easier for you, and safer for them, to sleep in your room at first).

If your cot fits in your bedroom, just have that. If it doesn't, a Moses basket is quite a cost effective item, especially if you go to an NCT sale or similar and get a second hand one. Your baby will probably outgrow it at around3/4 months.

It also depends what you want to do with the baby in the evening, before you go to bed. If you're following SIDS guidelines to the letter, you'll have them in the sitting room with you,so you'll need something for that (I never did this).

I had a moses basket for daytime amd used one of these at night, it was fab, particularly if you are planning to breastfeed, I never had to get out of bed

DS slept in a wooden gliding crib from mothercare next to our bed and this baby will be doing the same.

DS was very long and outgrew at 4 months but went straight into his own room and cot with no bother as we had been putting him in there for naps since birth to help prepare him.

We plan to have DC1 sleep in our room for first 6 months. For this we will be getting either a Chicco Next to Me or a similar bedside co sleeper crib.

We will also have a pen downstairs (we have a small doggy!) inside which we can pop them in for a Moses basket nap.

Will think about proper cot nearer the six months, when they move to own room.

co-sleeper cot was a brilliant purchase. Downstairs he slept in a hammock, didn't like Moses basket and grew out of it in about 2 seconds anyway.

We are going to have DC1 sleep in our room for at least the first 6 months and we'll be using the Chicco Next2Me crib as it does everything we want and folds up, so we can take it away with us if we go anywhere etc. From then on it'll be the Ikea cot (Gulliver) that will double as a bed when DC1 is older - possibly in our room at first and then in the nursery.

We have a Chicco Next to me co-sleeper. I really like it not huge like a cot but bigger than many of the co-sleepers. Which gives me space to keep a few things at the bottom of it like Lanolin cream.
It also has 2 loops that allows you to add toys to it but we have been using it to tie on one of those paper thermometers so we know the temp surrounding DD.

We also have an Amby nest orginally that is what DD was suppose to sleep in but DD likes to lie flat (she liked her hospital crib) and I didn't feel comfortable with her in the Amby. She was only 6lb 4oz and short she looked too squashed up and I didn't feel like her nose was clear enough.

I have the ikea cot side-car onto my bed. I put the Moses basket in the cot when he was younger. Though he's spent about 2 nights on his cot, my bed is apparently far more comfy! He's almost 8 months.
