First pregnancy.. Baby more likely to make early appearance or not?

OH and I have decided to visit his family in Southampton (we live in Edinburgh).
I will be between 35-38 weeks whilst down there.
Should I take anything just in case or is it most likely that baby will arrive closer to due date?

There's always a chance but most babies are born 38-42 weeks, just take your notes with you (maybe car seat if driving) and small hospital bag. It can't hurt.

No guarantees with any baby, first or otherwise!

Take your stuff just in case. Lugging all that baby guff cross country is basically the only way to guarantee he/she arrives at 40 wks ,

I'd take stuff, 1 in 10 are premature so it's not as rare as people think (like I did) and at 37 weeks you're term anyway. Your hospital and bag wouldn't be a lot to take with you in the boot of a car. Believe me, being in hospital with nothing is pretty rubbish although people brought stuff the next day.

You always get told the first will be late but not in all cases so as above go with the essentials such as hospital bag and car seat as you don't want to end up having to buy another if you are early.

I was fully expecting to go somewhere upto 42 wks but my DD was on her due date, in the bed next to me was one of the other NCT mum's due 3 wks after me and the day before another had hers at almost 42 wks.

See how you feel as well, there's no way I could've done that trip at 35 weeks! In fact we were going to (but reverse direction - to Edinburgh) but I had DS instead

We aren't driving down so once train tickets have been purchased then we will definitely be going.
I'm just really hoping baby doesn't decide that he wants to come early, it would be a nightmare having him down south without my family (I'm only 20 aha)

I would take notes and a hospital bag. I'm not sure how up for that journey you'll be feeling by then though.
I couldn't have done it with my first as I swelled up with water at around 35 weeks and couldn't bend my ankles and could barely walk.
With my second I was bouncing about fit as a fiddle until the day I went into labour.

Same as Roseybee, Once I hit 35 weeks I started getting swollen ankles and calves. I travelled by train to Birmingham yesterday which was only a two hour journey and am 36+4 and my feet got worse and worse on the way which made the relatively short journey extremely uncomfortable.

I thought I'd be fine when this was arranged two months ago. Are you going to be on a sleeper train? If yes, then not too bad as you can then lay down and elevate your legs :)

Take everything with you - I thought I'd go overdue with my first so was very surprised when he made an appearance at 37+2, the day after I'd finished work!

Oh god, I never thought any of this through!
I'm being tested for DVT and already my legs and feet are bloody killing!
Maybe traveling so far isn't a good idea after all
