I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Made it to Tesco yesterday, though didn't stay long as suddenly felt really nauseous and dizzy with throbbing pain behind eye. I think pain might be a blocked sinus as it always starts behind same eye then radiates through head. It goes away after few hours but comes back every morning without fail Sad I mentioned it to midwife today, she said it might be migraine although I don't have aura or blurred vision. Anyone else experience daily headaches like this that start behind one eye?
Midwife referred me back to antenatal clinic to see consultant, as vomiting not improving much. Luckily no key-tones or protein in urine, but back to vomiting through afternoon and eve. My BP was 90/60, is that low enough to cause dizziness? Finding i get very tired and dizzy if standing or walking for long.

Amy and Mellee hope you enjoy your birthdays tomorrow and manage to have nice time!
Amy the museum-town sounds a lovely place to wander around, at least you'll be out in fresh air most of time not stuck in a stuffy room. I went to a great living museum in Midlands a few years ago, really enjoyed it and plenty of places to sit and rest (although my friend fell out of a Victorian swing-boat in fairground so do take care!) They might even sell traditional barley-sugar if they have a sweet-shop. Hope you're coping with everything today Flowers

Penguin how are you feeling now, did you say you have to go back today for another scan? It's awful you were treated like that in hospital. What a stressful time, no wonder it's made your HG symptoms flare up.

Hope everyone's managing ok...

Amyyy27 · 26/05/2015 15:07

Lilac Sorry you are suffering with the headaches. I have been prone to migraines for years and they always start with a pain behind my eye so it sounds like it could be migraines. Unfortunately I wouldn't even bother trying paracetamol if it is. The best remedy for them is to keep hydrated (hard with HG!) and the migraine gel strips you put on forehead can help take the edge off. Thank you! I'm really looking forward to it just hope the sickness doesn't spoil it. I have coeliac disease where I can't have anything containing wheat barley or rye... I know some barley sugar doesn't contain barley (theres some old fashioned sticks in the local chemist that are lovely!) But will check as they have an amazing old fashioned sweet shop where you can watch the sweets being made!

LucindaE · 26/05/2015 17:51

Lilac and Any I so symapthize about migraines, they can be so much worse in early pregnancy or with hormonal surges. I mixed them up with dehydration headaches as they don't feel very different. A lot of people on this thread have suffered from them, it makes me wonder if it's connected with a hormonal imbalance that gives one Hyperemesis...

Amyyy27 · 26/05/2015 18:07

Lucinda that sounds very likely could be caused by the same thing! Such a shame as if we don't have enough going on lol

elizabethsmum · 26/05/2015 19:19

very briefly- headaches as you describe starting behind the eye lilac I get them quite commonly (both before and after my pregnancies) and I think they are hormone related. I often feel very sick with them and have to go to bed. had one recently at work and had an urge to get Smith's square crisps (salt and vinegar) which is what I sometimes used to manage with hg. when severely dehydrated I used to get similar pounding headaches but didn't used to start in quite the same way (can't remember if behind the eye or not), couldn't bear light and can remember being on a trolley in a&e face down, bum in air on hands and knees with head under pillow trying to make headache go away- very glam!! bizarrely can remember a mad woman coming into our cubicle and dh telling her to f* off [embarrassed]

Melleebacca · 26/05/2015 19:27

Lilac - before and since pregnancy my bp has always been 90/60. I got IV fluids when it dropped to 82/60. Before pregnancy I had a few issues with dizziness, but mostly when I was sick. With pregnancy, I'm dizzy most days immediately after standing and if I'm up and about for longer than 10 minutes. It get really bad if I have to stand still, so I'm avoiding queues.

Thanks all for the birthday wishes. I'm heading on a hour long drive to visit my mum for a few days. She's going to take me shopping for stretchy pants and make me all my favorite meals from my childhood.

I had my best day with HG so far yesterday, so crossing my fingers today is good too. I popped into work with cake (bought not baked Sad), and told my boss that I will take unpaid leave after my sick pay runs out at the end of this week. Lasted 2hours at work, plus an hour round commute, so a grand total of 3hours out of the house. Came home and retired to the sofa, but didn't puke!

Amy - all the best for today, my heart goes out to you.

Penguin - I hope everything went well with the checkup etc. Awaiting with crossed fingers for a positive update.

Waves to everyone!

Meerka · 26/05/2015 19:28

penguin how are you today? the hospital sound dreadful :( I know they are stretched but treating people like this just makes you iller.

melleebee how are your aching joints today? I hope it was just a cold (bad enough as that is).

ealli lovley to hear you had a good weekend, if only the band had known how much you'd been through to get to the point where you could be the cool pregnant dancing lady!

amyyy hope you are doing okay and less sick than yesterday. HG can run very, very expensive ... we had to pay a lot of child care expenses for our older one.

daffodil hope your day isn't too bad and you've been able to get vertical at least!

Melleebacca · 26/05/2015 19:37

Meerka - joints are a little better, but I still have the tail end of my cold. Starting to get tingly legs when I wake up, totally manageable but I'm keeping an eye on it anyways. I sleep on my side regardless, so don't know if it's the sciatica nerve being pinched.

Lilac - forgot to mention, bp is at its lowest during the second trimester and then picks up during the third. So hopefully it will get better for you soon (can't remember when you're due).

Meerka · 26/05/2015 19:44

hm, you weren't on metoclopramide were you?

a few people have found that their sciatic nerve was more painful / sensitive during preg.

Penguinandminipenguin · 26/05/2015 19:46

I think we will put a complaint in, cos at the end of the day, if something was wrong the baby would have died :( so need to put in a complaint to try and stop others from going through it if that makes sense?

Scan went well. I lost weight in the first trimester due to the sickness, and have only put on 7lbs to date so far. However, at 30 weeks the baby is weighing 4lbs 3oz!! Shock

So the good news is there's no need to worry about the baby not getting enough nutrients if you're being sick. However, the baby is too big, so need an extra growth scan in 3 weeks and 6 weeks to see if I need to be induced or anything.

Have a doppler something or another on Friday to check the blood flow as they still don't really have answers as to why the heart rate was dropping on Saturday. So this is just for reassurance.

Hope everyone is well!

Hellohellohowareyou · 26/05/2015 20:08

Haven't been on for a few days, hello to all the newbies you have found the best place for advice, this thread is the mutts nuts Grin

I've had an interesting first day of maternity leave, ended up at the hospital being monitored for a while as I've started to lose my mucus plug and was having a few cramps. Luckily baby is showing no other signs of appearing early which is good. She's only got another 4 weeks to hold on!

Melleebacca · 26/05/2015 20:23

Meerka - I was on metachlopramide at the beginning of my sickness for probably 3 weeks. I only took a half dose, and stopped taking it after I had a day of crazy anxiety. I haven't taken it in probably 10 weeks now, do you think it could still have an effect?

Penguin - I'm so relieved baby is growing well! I have a feeling my baby is growing large as well, will see at my next scan in 2 weeks.

Hello - oooooo baby. Not far off now! My SIL lost her mucous plug at 36weeks and gave birth the next day. Hopefully the midwives and doctors are keeping a good eye on you. Although, it is a great day to be born on :)

Meerka · 26/05/2015 20:37

No, if you've stopped taking it then it's no problem and I -really- dont think that small a dose for so short a time could have done anything [im not medical, though I had a tiny bit of pharmacy training a long time ago. Done a lot of reading around it though]

MotherofPearl · 26/05/2015 23:42

Just popping on to wish Amy and Mellee happy birthday for tomorrow! Really hope you're well enough for some celebrations, even if modest.
Penguin, so sorry to hear about your scare. The whole experience sounds pretty traumatic. Hope all well now.
Hello, I didn't realise that you still have 4 weeks to go, thought you were further along for some reason. Early babies good with ongoing HG, but of course this early would probably not be best.
ElizMum, your trolley story made me chuckle! The indignities of HG!
Can't remember if I've already said but coil is out, so all now back to normal. Will have to wait and see what the next few months bring I guess. Hmm
Waves to ElizMum, Lucinda, Meerka and everyone.

Amyyy27 · 27/05/2015 07:32

Thanks for the kind thoughts for yesterday Star

Mother thank you, not feeling great so far but might get through the day!

Daffodil3228 · 27/05/2015 07:53

Hello Melleebacca and Amy wishing you both a very happy birthday today with lots of tlc and hopefully a bit of a breather from sickness and nausea today xx
Just wanted to pick the brains of you lovely ladies who might know a bit about cyclazine, I'm persevering but struggling a bit with it. It makes me v sleepy so if I can manage I've been going without (I'm dopey and drowsy enough already with this pregnancy lol) which means I have only been taking it when nausea gets really bad and then I throw it right up. Those who found it helpful did you take it regularly.. Thinking maybe I should bite the bullet and do that.
I had a lovely day yesterday, my mum visited and took me to the park via taxi. We went from bench to bench and were able to enjoy the sunshine. She was really nice to be with, I think cos she's an-ex nurse she wasn't freaked out or worried by me being so slow and feeble. Made me think, one good thing about this pregnancy is that we've got closer together, perhaps I've just realised that although I'm all grown up its still nice to be able to lean on mum sometimes!
I know I'm new at this game and all of you will know these tips before me probably but wanted to mention that along with ice lollies and tinned peaches (lovely) I have discovered breadsticks and am now always clutching a box cos they seem to work better than toast! Probably stating the obvious but wanted to share my exciting find! Also mum suggested going on full fat milk which I think is helping a few more calories go in.
Wave hello to everyone! Xx

elizabethsmum · 27/05/2015 08:07

happy birthday to amy and mellee- sorry that it is now evening with you mellee so that's a bit late of me! ð???ð???but possibly not much ð??? and definitely no ð??·ð???. xx

elizabethsmum · 27/05/2015 08:09

Oh dear tried to be clever in there supposed to be a present, balloon, cake and glass of wine in that order!!!Grin

Amyyy27 · 27/05/2015 08:13

Haha elizabeths that made me giggle, thank you Grin

Thanks daffodil ! Would also be interested to know that about cyclizine as I haven't been taking regularly either. I've found if I'm having an ok day and take one it makes me feel worse!

elizabethsmum · 27/05/2015 08:14

daffodil cyclizine will make you drowsy as it is an anti-histamine so that is the pay-off really. it can be really effective if you can keep it down and its effects in the body are cumulative i.e. it is better to keep taking it than just take it when needed. hopefully if you are taking it daily/keeping it down, you may see an improvement in a few (maybe about 5 days). once you are (finally) feeling better, it is best to keep taking it for a while, as if it is doing its job, that's initially what will be likely causing an improvement in your symptoms rather than hg abating per se. nothing worse than coming off meds too quickly and having a relapse (as most of us know from experience!)
hth
waves to everyone.

Meerka · 27/05/2015 09:07

melleebee and amyyy hope you can have a good birthday!

About cyclizine, yeah, what elizabeth'smum says. it does build up in the system. The drowsiness might wear off, possibly.

elizabeth'smum are you in scandanavia? those were some impressive characters you were writing above! :)

Melleebacca · 27/05/2015 10:07

Thanks all! Lovely vom-free day here in the sunshine, despite the cold :).
Absolutely exhausted, and loving the fact my bed is set up in mums lounge next to the fire. Ate 3/4 of a roast meal for dinner, 3 potatoes, 2 small pieces of lamb and some peas and carrots. Going stretchy pants shopping tomorrow.
Hope everyone is doing well.

MotherofPearl · 27/05/2015 11:02

Daffodil, just wanted to say that I took cyclizine throughout my HG pregnancy, weeks 6-41, and the drowsiness does improve, or at least it did for me. Maybe I just got habituated to it. It was never a total cure but took me from 10+ voms a day and not able to get any liquids in, to 1-2 voms a day and reasonably well hydrated. I did take it regularly. Sometimes I thought it wasn't doing anything but the minute I tried to stop taking it, I'd relapse so it must have been doing something.
Hope everyone having a reasonable day.

Penguinandminipenguin · 27/05/2015 17:06

Happy Birthday Melle & Amy!

elizabethsmum · 27/05/2015 17:32
