I'm nearly 7 weeks now and got through my 1st apt date with the midwife which will be at exactly 10 weeks.

What should I expect?

Filling out a long form.

I got told to expect to be there for at least an hour to fill out all the paperwork. I go next week.

Filling out your maternity notes. You'll need info regarding your family medical history on both sides. Details of any previous pregnancies or miscarriages.

She'll work out your due date.

Lots of information and leaflets.

A blood test. Or a blood form for a blood test.

You might get a flu jab if there's time. Otherwise you'll need to book an appointment to get one.

At mine the mw;

  • checked my height/ weight/ blood pressure
  • tested my wee
  • asked about my medical history
  • asked about significant family medical history for both me and DH
  • told me about when to expect appointments throughout the pregnancy and which ones I needed to book myself
  • briefly explained and gave me leaflets about all the tests and vaccinations that are available
  • got me to sign a few consent forms
  • asked how I felt about the pregnancy and if I had support at home
  • gave me a bounty pack and several booklets about pregnancy
  • booked my dating scan

It took about an hour all together and I could have done with taking an empty carrier bag for all the leaflets.

Depending on how old you are they will give you a chlamydia test to do.

They test under 25s for it :)

paperwork, leaflets, wee & blood Grin

NoArmaniNoPunani · 01/05/2015 18:01

I've got mine through and the midwife is coming to my home for it. Has anyone else had that?

PotteringAlong · 01/05/2015 18:02

Yes, they do them at home in my area.

changingagain · 01/05/2015 19:02

In my area the bloods aren't taken until the dating scan.

Cornettoninja · 02/05/2015 09:09

I had a blood form to take away and get done, urine and blood pressure tested, a shit load of forms and questions in medical history, partners history, a brief outline of what would happen appointment wise, where to go/ring if I had any concerns and what to watch out for, my 12 week scan date and a cheery 'bye see you at 16 weeks Smile'.

It's basically an introduction appointment.

Amyyy27 · 02/05/2015 17:30

Blood taken, paperwork to fill in, urine sample. That was all for me.

P.s I'm under 25 and definitely no chlamydia test for me! Maybe that's a regional thing? I'm up north!

laurenlhthompson · 02/05/2015 20:48

I'm up north too Amy! They told me they test everyone in the county I live in under 25 and I didn't really mind.
