low platelets

I've had my first set of bloods back and my platelets were 108. Midwife said nothing to worry about but the lower limit is 150. Anyone out there with experience of this that can tell me what to expect?

No experience (first pregnancy) but mine are at 109.
I'm being observed for DVT though as my sister had this during pregnancy.
The haematologist seemed quite concerned about it tbh, I've to go back for regular blood tests as my platelets have been around 109 even before pregnancy too.

In all my pregnancies mine have run at around 90, am currently pregnant with dc4. Platelets renew every few weeks so they could go up, I have had sections with all births but not due to low platelets, and all under spinal instead of GA which is preferred if platelets are to low. After speaking with my bosses, ones a surgeon the other an anesthetist they have both reassured me that platelets only start getting "fun" if they drop below 70 :)

Mine are around that as well. They are taking regular bloods but have been told by consultant not concerned unless drops below 100. (Was not refered to consultant because of that though. Was already seeing them)

And then I had anaesthetic r/v and they are not concerned re epidurals etc unless drops below 80. (Again I already had this r/v booked but flagged this up whilst there, just so you know you probably won't have any extra appointments)

Don't worry too much. I work in haematology and we only get concerned if the platelets fall below 50 and there is bleeding or below 30 with the possibility of bleeding.

We have patients who we too up weekly to keep above 10

In all likelihood they will have platelets on standby for you. This happens all the time we throw away lots of bags :(

When I say concerned, I mean concerned enough for products to be issued. You will be monitored more closely of course.

Oh another thing - ask for a repeat sample to be taken. Sometimes small clots in the sample can result in a low platelet count

Sorry everyone over been in work with no signal, that's really helpful, I always feel better for knowing what's going on! Fingers crossed that they stay pretty static in that case
