How would you describe first baby movements?

Sorry if this has been done before but all I could find when i searched was when people feel the baby for the first time not how it actually feels. On Saturday while sitting with dh on the sofa I felt something on my right side that was quite small and felt kind of like a muscle twitch. I then felt it twice more in the next 5 minutes. Is this likely to be the baby I am 17+3? I wouldn't really describe it as the fluttering that I've read about but the only place I've ever felt anything similar is on the odd occasion my eyelid twitches!

Yes! thats how i would describe it exactly...like an eyelash twitch. I was 17 weeks when i first felt it.

How lovely for you, its your little bean telling you they are there and doing great!

Daisypops · 06/11/2006 14:43

Yeeehhh this is what mine felt like and I was 17 +2. Lovely isn't it?!

doormat · 06/11/2006 14:45

like a litttle flutter
eyelash twitch is another good way to descibe it

It's great, just felt it again while sitting here! I asked dh and he said how I am I supposed to know! Didn't want to get too excited though as I feel like a loon enough of the time at the moment!

yes me to - for me it was like - u know when your eye twitches dead fast cos of the blood rushing to it (don't know if that's just me) but that's how i'd describe it. had it at 16 weeks then nothing till about 20 weeks. give it till u can feel it mopre often and it actually quite tickles - my old boss thought I was mad i'm sure cos hte boy would flutter about and i'd be sat at my comp with a huge grin! lol.

cherish it - it's a truely lovely feeling.

MrsDoolittle · 06/11/2006 14:54

It's a bit like a popping feeling inside you.
Butterflies I have heard it descibes as too. But the eyelash twitch analogy is good too

shhhh · 06/11/2006 14:58

With me it was like what I imagined it would feel like the have a butterfly cupped in your hand..the frantic fluttery movements...

Lovely sensation and even better when its stronger allowing your dh/dp etc feel it...

air bubbles... I had it from 16 weeks, I brushed it aside, but, it was definatly DS!

twocatsonthebed · 06/11/2006 15:07

A friend of mine described it to me as being like one of those Chinese fortune telling fish moving in the palm of your hand, and I really liked that!

CurrantBun · 06/11/2006 15:51

Yes, it was definitely like a muscle twitch for me the first time I felt it. It was quite faint at first - the movements are much stronger now. I first felt it at 16 weeks which surprised me as I'd been told with a first baby I wouldn't feel anything until 20 weeks.

My bubs is now extremely active, especially when I'm stretched out on the sofa in the evenings, but I also feel him/her during the day at work. I love it; it's really reassuring.

And I can now actually see my abdomen moving in and out as the baby kicks - slightly weird, but nice as hubby can see it too.
