Awful Headaches

I'm nearly 20 weeks and over last few days have started getting terrible headaches. I'm trying to eat well and drink lots of water but it makes no difference. Nor does paracetamol. Does anyone else have similar? It's making me quite depressed. I just want to lie in a dark room with my eyes closedSad

Couple of things - headaches can be a sign of pre-eclampsia if also accompanied by any of the following: raised BP, swelling in hands, feet and face, protein in urine and pain at the top of your bump. Your MW will however be regularly checking you for all of this stuff, so you'll find out at your next appt. Ring them earlier if you're really concerned.

I personally get headaches if I sleep flat on my left hand side, no idea why! I've had to sleep propped up for the last month or so (33 weeks now). Could be worth trying a different position if this sounds familiar. Also massages from a helpful DP if you have one! Maybe some preggo yoga too to stretch things out a bit? Pregnancy can be very stressful, unfortunately.

Paracetamol is indeed total bobbins :(

I had these during pregnancy - absolutely blinding pain. My doctor advised me to take co-codamol, but not to tell the pharmacist I was pregnant, as they wouldn't sell them to me if I did!
I was in so much pain that I did take them, and they did help, but the instruction to lie thing makes me think it may not have been the soundest advice...
Maybe talk to your dr - they should be able to advise, even over the phone if you don't want to go in.
Good luck!

Thanks all. I'm going in to my GP surgery later this week for a blood test for something else so will ask them to check blood pressure as not seeing midwife again until 24 weeks. I'm not swollen I don't think.

Like most people I'm always rushing around with work and a pre schooler etc so I thought I'd just overdone it. Have tried to rest this afternoon so hopefully that will help.

I feel your pain I suffered all through pregnancy with headaches nothing got rid of them completely but I did find that the cool n soothe migraine strips that you put on your forehead took the edge off a bit. Drink plenty fluids and rest as much as you can.

Might be a migraine and not just a headache. My migraines have got so much worse during pregnancy, until I worked out what they were being triggered by (bright sunlight, cheese, and a few other things!). Might be worth keeping a diary to see if anything is triggering them. Pregnancy can make some people more headachey. Are you doing pregnancy yoga? Really helps mine.

mmmm, I have been eating a lot of cheese lately....

Also I work on a screen all day and have to read a lot for work so that doesn't help.

I'm not doing yoga but have been doing pilates. Was supposed to do it this evening actually but I've been in bed since 7Sad

Book yourself in for an eye test - eyesight often gets worse in pregnancy and working on screens won't help! I've never had a problem with cheese before until this pregnancy - see what happens if you cut it out. I was gutted as really craving and enjoying cheese!
