17 weeks - how much weight you all put on?

I'm 17 weeks pregnant and have put on 9 pounds overall and pretty much all of it has been in the last 3 weeks - know I've been eating chocolate, ice cream cream etc and am wondering if it's all due to eating rubbish or if some of it will be baby-related? How much weight have other people put on at about 17 weeks?

im 17 weeks on thursady, and have so far put on 1lb, (i lost 3lb at the beginning when i had bad morning sickness, and have since put that back on, and am now 1lb up on my start weight) i have been more careful this time, as i put on 5 1/2 stone last time! i think having a 20 month old dd to run around after has also helped.

heidle · 06/11/2006 10:51

Hi LJK!
I'm almost 17 weeks too, and by 12 weeks had put on almost a stone! The horrendous weight gain seems to have stopped for the moment (thank god)and I can see from my bra where most of it has gone! This is my 3rd pregnancy, and I seem to remember that you make loads of extra blood (big fluid gain) and of course your womb is loads bigger, and full of fluid (fluid gain again)Don't worry too much about the weight - you'll need it after coz you'll never sit still for the next 5 years, or finish a meal or a cuppa! Also, I don't know about you, but I felt so sick for the first 3 months that I had to keep snacking to stop feeling so bad.
good luck with everything!

alex8 · 06/11/2006 16:08

nothing have actually lost a few pounds) but have been very good cos I have gestational diabetes. But with first pregnancy probably had put on a good stone by this time for the same snacking reason as heidle. I think most babies weigh a pound by 22 weeks. Also there may be some water retention

cath29 · 06/11/2006 16:37

i really honestly wouldn't give it a second thought LJK. so long as you basically eat a balanced diet and eat what you feel you need, your body will work it out. that said, i put on a lot of weight with my dd! but i think i'd rather that, than be watching my weight when there is so much else to think about. from what i can see this time (i'm nearly 20 wks) bumps vary in size enormously. i think i've put on about 8 or 9 pounds and am totally happy with that.. if only everything else were so easy lol

chelle479 · 06/11/2006 17:08

I'm 35 weeks on wednesday, and I havent gained 1 pound

But I have been losing from elsewhere, mainly bum and hips lol. Midwife is not concerned at all as baby is growing very well

BIGlilBUBU · 06/11/2006 17:17

When I was pregnant all in all I gained about 5 stone. I think I gained about 2 stone in the first trimester, 1 stone in the second and then another 2 in the last.
It was down to me eating all day long, never going out...ect...ect
I've lost all the weight now, it only took me about 4 months to lose most of it. But I got stretchmarks. If I hadnt gained so so much weight I may not of had such a big baby, and I might not of got such bad stretch marks.
I regret not whatching what I ate so so much. Next time I get pregnant Im going to be so much more careful...I hope .

BIGlilBUBU · 06/11/2006 17:18

etc

bobblehead · 06/11/2006 18:47

I am 18 weeks and so far have gained around 12lb I think. I know most of this is down to eating the wrong things and lots of carbs early on, but that was all I could face. Now I'm not feeling so sick (and all the halloween chocolate is gone) I'm going to make a bit more effort and hopefully slow down the weight gain.

MumtoBen · 06/11/2006 19:24

With my 1st pregnancy I put on 1lb in the first 17 weeks. From that point on I put on about 1lb a week and put on a total of 26lbs by the time I gave birth. That was within recommended limits, but less than most people I know. I completely lost my appetite for about 7 months, so it was a struggle to eat.

cath29 · 06/11/2006 19:53

and at chelle!! lol

gigglinggoblin · 06/11/2006 19:56

im 26 weeks on wednesday and am 12lb lighter than when i found out. no idea how.

last time i put on 2 stone by 12 weeks then nothing after. again no idea how.

thats prob not v helpful for normal people

BIGlilBUBU · 07/11/2006 08:45

S giggling goblin, do you eat less now that your pregnant? or do you just eat really healthy foods or something? id love to lose weight while pregnant. You never know maybe next time.

sallycinnamon · 07/11/2006 08:56

I'm 17 weeks today. I lost about 6 lbs in the first 8 weeks due to Morning Sickness and loss of appetite. I'm currently about 3 lbs lighter than I was before I was pregnant. Put on about a stone and a half with 1st pregnancy. I shouldn't worry too much- as long as your midwife is happy that baby is growing well.

cinnamongreyhound · 07/11/2006 09:09

I lost 1 1/2 stone from finding out til 13 weeks due to morning sickness am now 17+4 and haven't put any back on but my appetite is much less than it was and I really don't want to eat high sugar/high fat foods no idea why! The book I have does suggest 6-9lb weight gain by now tho.

maveta · 07/11/2006 10:31

I have put on 1 kg since the first weigh in, I'm 16 weeks...I'm quite surprised as I had expected I would put it on quicker...I'm sure it will catch up with me later!!

jabberwocky · 07/11/2006 10:33

LJK, that's about the same as I did this time around. Maybe 10 pounds? With ds I was more like 17 or 18 pounds at that point I definitely wanted to avoid putting on that much that quickly with this baby.

gigglinggoblin · 07/11/2006 18:24

i did go through a phase of craving veg, i had to stock up the freezer and would sit and eat bowls of mixed vegetables at night. other than that i am not eating much differently at all. i was quite overweight when i got pg this time, last time i wasnt very fat (although def wasnt thin) so maybe thats the difference.

this is no 4, all have been different, it hasnt mattered what i have tried to do. the only thing i am making an effort to do this time eat loads of dairy cos my teeth are in an awful state! what will be will be, theres no point worrying about it now as there really isnt much you can do about weight during pregnancy. it just happens ime

heidle · 07/11/2006 19:43

is it just me or should I be able to eat exactly what I like without putting anything on due to all the calories saved from not drinking.......?

Rosybumpily · 07/11/2006 19:51

I'm 22 weeks now, have put on over a stone. This is no.4 for me, I usually put on 3 stone in pregnancy. Feels great to lose it afterwards!

emzickle · 08/11/2006 11:57

i put on 4 stone in all... cant wait to get back to pre PG weight... grrr

charlii13 · 08/11/2006 12:02

Hey

I'm 17 weeks and have gained between 7 - 9lbs i reckon, tho i was v.slim before i found out i was preg (8st) so its not overly noticeable, bumps quite noticeable but other than that i look OK. (still have frumpy days tho )

keep smilin'!

LJK - You're perfectly fine putting on 9lbs, everyones different.

charlii n bump xx

JodieG1 · 08/11/2006 12:04

I'm 30 weeks now and have put on 1 stone and 3 pounds so far. They say that they more you weigh at the start the less you should gain and the less you weigh the more you should gain. I'm quite slim usually but never worry about what I eat or what I weigh, I've put on 1 and a half to 2 stone with both other pregancies and lost the weight again easily afterwards so I'm really not too bothered this time either.

Daisypops · 08/11/2006 13:09

chelle.

I'm 31 weeks tomorrow and the last time I weighed myself I'd put on 24lbs! I've eaten a balanced diet (even if I do say so myself!) and I've had no cravings so I don't know what I'd have put on if I'd have eaten loads of rubbish. I didn't start putting weight on til about 16 weeks. My bump is also very neat and I haven't put weight on all over, just a bit on my bum and thighs. Aslong as your bub is growing ok thats all that matters.

CornflakeKid · 08/11/2006 14:21

I don't weigh myself normally and the midwife didn't weigh me either - am now 17+4 - have obvious bump and jordan boobs - but don't seem to have gained weight anywhere else. I think as long as you eat well then most people gain a sensible amount of weight and find it easier to lose it again afterwards. This is my third and I am definitely bigger earlier - I am really hoping I don't keep growing at this rate! Didn't weigh with the first two either and only real concept of weight is small, medium and big and what a 10lb baby looks like!

trixymalixy · 08/11/2006 16:44

I had put on 12 pounds at 24 weeks.

i wouldn't get too hung up about it as everybody is different.

I think the general rule is that if you are a normal weight before pregnancy then you should put on 2 stone in total throughout pregnancy. If you are underweight to begin with then you should put on around 3 stone and if you are overweight to begin with then you should put on 1 stone.

from www.babyworld.co.uk:

Mostwomen put on around 1.8kg (4lb) in the first 12 weeks, then around 0.5kg (1lb) a week for the next three months (5.5-6.4kg or 12-14lb in total) and only around 4.6kg (10lb) over the last 12 weeks or so.

Baby: 3.4kg (7.5lb)
Placenta: 0.68kg (1.5lb)
Extra fluid: 1.36kg (3lb)
Increased blood: 1.25kg (2.5lb)
Amniotic fluid: 0.8kg (1.5lb
Uterus: 0.9kg (2lb)
Fat deposits: 3.18kg (7lb)
Breasts: 0.5kg (1lb)
TOTAL GAIN: 12.02kg (26.5lb)*
