Travel at 29 weeks... Uncertain!

Morning ladies! I am planning to go to a wedding (which I would hate to miss as it is a very dear friend!) at 29 weeks. It is Athens, so ca. 4h flight, for a long weekend (4 days).

Obviously I will first get an all clear from my consultant, wear flight stockings, etc and look into hospitals over there (insurance is sorted). But I'm wondering if a flight at this stage may cause problems even if everything was fine before? Has anyone travelled at this stage in pregnancy? If yes, how did you feel and how did it go?? My mom tries to convince me not to go (she always does no matter what), and even though I'll listen to my doctors advice rather than hers, I'm keen to see if anyone had problems out of nowhere.

yes, I have travelled (and long-haul) around that stage. No problems. Haven't found any studies that claim that flying in pregnancy is risky - airlines would not let you fly if this was the case.

Yup I travelled at 31 weeks to America for a week. All was absolutely fine. No worries. Looks like you've already researched everything, know that you need a letter from the doc, etc. You could travel with your birth notes if you're worried. But you'll be fine, no risk to pregnancy :)

It's not a long flight,so as long as you are feeling ok and get all clear from doctors I would say go. Make sure you have Travel insurance that covers pregnancy in case of any emergency.
I've just done long haul at 26 weeks at did not feel more uncomfortable than usual.

Hi, yes at this end, I travelled at 31 weeks, home journey at 32 weeks, all was fine, free upgrade both ways, was lovely. Smile

Thank you ladies!! I did a long haul holiday at 21/22 weeks and it was fine (my only lesson learned was to take snacks with me even when flying in premium economy :) ). Was just wondering if it is still ok at such advanced stage.

It's fine - they wouldn't let you on the plane if it wasn't. Definitely take your notes with you and double check your travel insurance as some only cover complications from birth over 28 weeks and don't cover natural birth. Also check that they'd cover your baby if born early.

I am planning to go on holiday at around that time, hadn't even thought about checking out hospitals, I'm so crap! And we were thinking of going somewhere like Vietnam or Cambodia which would be an 8-9 hour flight from where I am. The way I see it is that if you get the docs note you need for flying then no issues - I haven't read anything that says flying should be avoided. I am 16 weeks and have done 2 trips - 1 at 6 hours and 1 at 7.5 hours - however I know at 29 weeks it would be likely to be a lot more uncomfortable!

You'll be fine. Just check insurance and airline policy-my insurance only covered me to 28 weeks though others will cover you later. Most airlines don't need a letter before 32
Weeks.
Definitely take notes, if only to prove how pregnant you are if asked
(I wasn't)

Hey batfish - we're going to Vietnam/ Cambodia too!

Yes I flew away on holiday around the same time. Flight was fine and I felt great, fit and agile, could walk for miles.
