Basically I had my 36 week appointment but I'm 36+5 and my midwife was in a crapy mood so wasn't a good outcome. I have SPD and she said she wants a consultant to look at me and see if they will induce me if baby's not here at 40weeks and went on to say she won't see me again until 14th may (I'm due the 17thmay) she took bloods due to uncontrollable itching and wants to check for a liver thing but she didn't say anything eles, I have a daughter 20 months old so I no all about the labour and what not but she didn't say how long after baby's born I will have to stay in hospital. I'm hoping if all goes well I will be home same day but unsre what the rules are and she didn't even go through a birth plan or any pain relief ect. All in all didn't get much info.
Anyone no anything about the stay after birth ect?
Thanks xx

I had Obstetric Choleastasis with DD ( itchy liver thing). If your bloods show raised bile acids or poor liver function you will be induced at 37-38 weeks. I was in for 24 hours after giving birth but about 6 of those hours were waiting for discharge notes! As far as I am aware, if you have a "normal" birth and there are no conpkications with you or baby, as long as you can urinate, blood pressure is not too high and baby will feed you will be discharged.

*complications

Did you ask her these questions or just expect her to raise them with you? Got to be proactive, y'know?

Queenofknickers · 23/04/2015 21:08

Actually OP was seeing a HCP for care - I don't think her getting basic information should depend on her being "proactive". The midwife should have been doing her job.

I asked her but she didn't seem to be bothered and I were I think she said I should get results in a week or so but she's normally really into the appointments never mind thanks ladies.

Isn't there some rule with the itching, like tummy only is normal but on the legs & arms is sign of the liver problem?

CelticPromise · 23/04/2015 21:35

Can you make an appointment for next week? Or give her a call?

mum2benicole · 24/04/2015 13:45

She's done a blood test so should get results in the next were I itch all over its horid but never mind will speak to consultant when I get an appointment not sure when that will be

Could it be that she can't give you any advice until she's determined whether you have Obstetric Cholestasis ? Because your care and labour and delivery may now be determined by your blood results. If she says you need a consultant anyway, I suspect she feels that their review of your pregnancy will decide the likely progress from this point so maybe she can't advise until you have had that cons apt?
