I have daily very intense headaches. Not migraines as I'm still able to concentrate and work etc, but they are bloody painful. A paracetamol does help, but I don't want to take paracetamol every day! Been going on for a good couple of weeks now. Awful and boring. Any suggestions? Should I be concerned? I work full time as well. Sleep quite badly at the moment, often have an achy neck so wondering if it's sleep position, but how do you tell?!

I've had the same from about 13-19 weeks, terrible headaches. One day it was so bad and nothing was working so I took some ibuprofen. I know you're not really supposed to but I couldn't function. I also had the painful neck and often woke up with the headaches. They seem to have eased off the last couple of weeks thank god. I mentioned to the midwife and they didn't seem overly concerned. Said I was probably dehydrated or hormone related. Doesn't really help though. Also try the 4Head stick, does take the edge off sometimes. Hope they go away soon!

Thank you! I'll try the stick as never used that before. Glad it seems nothing to worry about! Btw are you expecting a girl? I'd heard headaches are more common when pregnant with a girl. Probably a lot of nonsense but who knows!

Had dreadful headaches from about 10-17 weeks with my first (nothing would shift them, ibuprofen is not recommended). Hormone related I think unfortunately. The only thing that helped me was sleep so I went to bed as early as I could each night.

I had them throughout my whole pregnancy with my son. My blood pressure was always fine. I was told it was just one of those things some pregnancy ladies suffer from. (It is worth checking your bp though if you haven't already). Plenty of sleep, water and eating little and often helps.

ovumahead yes I am expecting a girl!

I have chronic migraine and in my last pregnancy my migraines were none existent. Great I thought, but this pregnancy I've had daily migraines up to 15 weeks. I use paracetamol which doesn't work, I don't want to use anything else so use red tiger balm as 4head is not strong enough for me.

gingerbreadmam · 22/04/2015 20:43

oh heck i have these and was hoping they werent pregnancy related. im 14 weeks and for the past 2 i wake up most days with a headache. tends to fade off after a few hours tho. looks like be stuck with them for a while yet.

is 4head safe in pregnancy? another one reluctant to rely on paracetamols even tho i know theyre totally safe.

avocadotoast · 22/04/2015 20:43

How far along are you? In later pregnancy it can be a concern as it can be a sign of pre-eclampsia.

I had headaches really bad earlier on though (they lasted 3 days sometimes, it was awful). I found it helped to drink more water than I'd ever have thought possible (some days I drank about 4 litres!) and to get an early night when I needed it.

It did pass though, thankfully! I don't remember when exactly, but perhaps by around 20 weeks they'd stopped.

avocadotoast · 22/04/2015 20:44

Oh and I used that 4head stuff too. It didn't help much, but between that and paracetamol it took the edge off a little.

Read on a similar thread to have some caffeine. E.g. Cup of tea or coffee as headache starts. Really worked for me, and without having more caffeine than recommended.

It's shit isn't it. I've been struggling from about week 14 (25 weeks now) had some really dire ones so don't stint on the paracetamol now and have a codeine prescription in case they go out of control. I think in my first pg I had regular reflexology done by a mw in the hospital because of the headaches... Not sure if that is still on offer (doubt it!) I might ask next appointment.
