Pre eclampsia symptom paranoia

I am probably worrying over nothing, but wondered if you ladies could reassure me? 25 weeks pregnant and I get a hard, sharp pain under my left rib and sometimes under the right at night when lying on my side, but it eases off when I lie on my back. I also had a spot of blurred vision in one eye last weekend, but it only lasted a day. I do notice pulsing in the same eye quite regularly.

Otherwise I feel totally fine. If these were symptoms of pre eclampsia surely they wouldn't come and go? I have a midwife appointment on Friday, but I've worried myself with all the guidance that screams to get checked out immediately.

I'd give your day unit s call, nothing to lose!

Last week I had swollen ankles and high BP, I called my day unit, they asked me to come in and they run a series of blood tests and put me on the monitor.

Bloods were fine for pre-eclampsia, but did randomly show I am very low on iron, so glad I did go in!

They were really good, and it gave me reassurance (I had eclampsia with seizures with DS, and pre-eclampsia with DD)

Always best to check.

Called GP who said it doesn't sound like pre eclampsia. Vision problems and pain under the ribs would be expected in advanced eclampsia, not an early symptom. And she'd also expect severe headaches that don't go away. But I'm to go in and give a urine sample and get blood pressure checked anyway just to be sure. Thanks for the reassurance! The nhs advice 'don't leave it til tomorrow' put the frighteners on me!

Glad you got it checked but just so you and anyone else reading knows, I didn't get a headache at all until the day before I had ds by section at 32 weeks. It was the very last symptom, so don't ignore anything just because you don't have a headache. I do remember the pain under the ribs- again that was one of the last symptoms I got.

you could also have a quick optician check, that might put your mind at rest about your eyes?

this sounds stupid, but if you aren't used to lying on your side, you might have squashed your eye on the pillow... i did this a couple of times years ago, and woke up with really blurry vision in one eye that lasted for a few hours. it was scary but eventually i realised what was causing it.

fingers crossed it's all just pregnancy niggles!

FYI I did not have any protein in my urine nor did I have rib pain when I had my eclamptic seizures!

I did however have very high BP (220/110) and I had the worst headache and blinding spots in my eyes, I could also hear a buzzing in my head.

You don't always get all the symptoms, so you are right to check.

Definitely worth a check to be safe!

I'm in hospital at the moment for high BP and protein in my wee (the beginnings of Pre-E basically). Was so gutted into be sent in as I have actually felt amazingly well the past week. The signs are there for me certainly, but nowhere near with the severity they warn you of!

Get it checked, and then when it all comes back fine, which is probably will do, you can relax :-)

Good luck x
