We're having our first child after TTC for 4yrs. Hubby opened up to me last night saying he feels depressed, down & stressed. He says its nothing to do with the pregnancy as that's all he wants & is really looking forward to bubba coming soon. Me & my MIL don't really see eye to eye, I try & get on with her just for peace really, but she's very interfering & tries to put hubby against me. Says a lot of horrible things about me to other people which I've heard from them. So basically me & her do argue occasionally, I feel it's best me & her don't mix in which case there won't be problems. But I think hubby feels abit restricted going over to see his mum & stuff, which don't get me wrong I have never stopped him & never will, it's his mum! He said to me last night all he wants is peace & for us to get on, in which case he can also look out for her more & keep an eye she's okay (as he's the only child & she's a widow)

I told him I am happy for us to sit down & talk, make her understand that in all this it's affecting my hubby.

But he feels she won't understand & won't care.

What do we/him do?

Sorry to go on. Any advise would be really helpful. Just hate seeing hubby down like this when it's supposed to be such a happy time for us. Sorry forgot to mention above, all this tension & stress is bringing his health down too, he's constantly ill, doesn't want to do anything, doesn't talk much. sad

Please help x

Hi, sorry you're going through a rubbish time. We had problems with my mil for yrs, very similar to how yours is. I put up with a hell of a lot before my dh realised it wasn't just me being over sensitive.
My dh went for some counselling (not just because of her) and learnt some coping strategies to help him through the tougher times. Worked really well for him. We never sat down with my mil as she was never going to change, we just had to find ways of dealing with her to reduce the stress for us. Hopefully your mil will be fine when lo arrives but unfortunately for us my mil got worse and was awful to me. To keep the peace I just put up with a lot and when I'd had enough for a while dh would see her on his own.
I Don't think I've offered any ideas other than the counselling just wanted you to Know there are plenty of people out there that have horrible mils, so you're not alone xx
