Hi. Just wondering what was the smallest clothes people bought and how many!
I have a few up to 1 month outfits purchased today. They say up to 10 lb. not sure if I need smaller too. And if so how many!
Thank you

Newborn, which tend to be starting at around the 7lb mark. Enough for few days, anything extra can be bought after.

I've been wondering this too. I was a 4kg lump when I was born, and am 184cm tall (over 6ft) so assume bean will be big, so newborn size (up to 4.5kg) seem a bit pointless. But otoh, even a 4kg baby would take a while to get up to 4.5+ and in the meantime, how much laundry do I really want to do?!

youlemming · 20/04/2015 21:38

I am going for a couple of packs of the tesco basic white stuff in both newborn and the next size up (either up to 1m or 0-3) as it's cheap and doesn't matter if she's bigger and not all used.
DD1 was 8lb which I think is around 3.7kg and I remember the newborn stuff being baggy for the first few wks and it taking a while to get into the up to 10lb bits.

CityDweller · 20/04/2015 22:16

I only bought 0-3 month stuff, assuming baby would be big (as that's the tendency in my family). She came out under 7lbs, so she was swamped by massive sleep suits for a few days until we sorted ourselves out with some newborn stuff.

SmileyScooby · 21/04/2015 07:40

My baby at the mo was already est at 7.5lbs at 36weeks last week so we've the plain white sets from Asda of bodysuits, sleeveless vests and sleepsuits one set of each in 'first size' (up to 9lb) and one set of each in 0-3. I've bought some other patterned sleepsuits for at home in 0-3 and we've got a newborn starter set from mothercare (up to 10lb) from a friend so I figured we would get by...worst case scenario for me would be that the measurements have been off the whole time and he's not gonna be huge and we have to buy a couple more first size/newborn things. I just didn't want to waste money on clothes he will in theory only be in a couple of times and figured that if he was too big for the up to 9lb stuff it was only about £10 I had wasted.

We had a surprisingly small DD (5lb 3oz at 39 weeks) and had nothing anywhere near small enough. DH had to pop out a few hours after she was born to grab a couple of packets of tiny stuff, it wasn't that difficult, and we went shopping for a bit more a few days later.

YouMakeMyHeartSmile · 21/04/2015 07:51

DD was 7lbs 12oz so not particularly small and 0-1 and 0-3 absolutely swamped her at first. She was in newborn size for at least a few weeks.

zebrapig · 21/04/2015 08:06

Growth scans aren't always very accurate IME. DD was estimated at 4lb10 at 32 weeks and predicted to be around 8lb7 at birth. She ended up coming at 35+5 and only weighed 4lb15. We had loads of stuff in the newborn (7.5lb) and up to one month (10lb) sizes and it was unwearable. Hubby had to buy tiny baby stuff for her while I was in hospital. She's only just going into the newborn stuff now at 6 weeks and weighing just over 6lb.

Equimum · 21/04/2015 08:09

DS was 9lb/ approx 4kg at birth and tge 'upto 1 month' things from Sainsburys and the 'newborn' from M&S, which both claimed to fit upto about 9lb fitted for at least 4-5 weeks. I've generally found babygrows from these places to last longer. I wouldn't bother buying smaller bits until baby arrives and you know for sure.

Meirasa · 21/04/2015 08:10

There are some great bundles of really lovely newborn and 0-3 months stuff on Ebay :-)

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 21/04/2015 08:15

I'd only bought 0-3 months. Had to send OH out to ASDA while I was in the hospital being induced three weeks early, and DD didn't get out of First Size clothes and into 0-3 until she was 10 weeks old.

lexyloub · 21/04/2015 08:24

New born for the first few days /weeks my ds was 7lb 4oz born upto 1mth buried him at 1st he's only gone into 0-3 at 7 weeks old

ChatEnOeuf · 21/04/2015 16:32

We had lots of newborn stuff. DD came at 37w weighing 5lb 14oz and was swamped by everything. Went shopping for tiny baby clothes that lasted her a good 6 weeks or so. She finally grew out of her 0-3m at about 6m of age - she's still petite today.

avocadotoast · 21/04/2015 17:45

We've bought a mixture. We have some cheapy newborn stuff (from Morrisons and Asda), nicer things I've bought in 0-3 months. That said, my mum has got us some really lovely sleepsuits that are newborn size. And we've a few hand knitted bits that are quite large!

crapfatbanana · 21/04/2015 18:41

My babies were all tiny and DH had to go buy tiny baby size stuff.

New30 · 21/04/2015 22:13

Aghhhh I'm not sure I trust hubby to go out shopping guess nearer the time I will get some small things and keep receipts incase they are too small!

I wouldn't go overboard on the tiny sizes. I found it quite practical to have stuff that was too big - with a firstborn it takes a while to get used to dressing them quickly without them getting worked up. It's easier done if the clothes are too big!

Roseybee10 · 22/04/2015 05:00

I was a 10lb baby so I assumed I would have big babies too.
I only bought 0-3 month stuff for dd1 and then she was only 8lbs 2oz so I had to go out and buy newborn stuff which I think she was in for about 2 weeks.
Dd2 was only 6lbs 14oz so she was in newborn til 7 weeks!!
I would maybe buy a pack of new born baby grows and a pack of vests and then you can either return them if baby is bigger or buy more if you need more.

Sirzy · 22/04/2015 05:13

I would ignore the weights given with the clothes, I found them to be particulary inaccurate.

DS was. 6lb 14 and needed tiny baby stuff when he was born. He was about 3 months before newborn size fitted.

NerrSnerr · 22/04/2015 05:23

My daughter was 8lbs1 and was in newborn clothes for about a month. 0-3 swamped her.
