How much tiredness is ok or normal dyeing pregnancy?

I'm absolutely knackered. I'm 35 years old and 19 weeks pregnant. I do work full time and I have a 7 year old ds who is generally really easy going and my dh does loads around the house. My job is very demanding, but I've just had 10 days off and tbh, I'm more exhausted now than I was before! I could just sleep all the time. Everything feels like an effort. I'm not really exercising so my stamina is pants. All I want to do is lie down and snooze. I don't sleep massively well partly due to pain in hips which I'm addressing at the moment. Got to go back to work tomorrow and I'm seriously dreading it. My brain feels like blancmange. What can I do?!

I am exhausted all the time and signed off work because of it (I'm 25 weeks). I have been diagnosed with anaemia as well so awaiting treatment for this. When were you last checked for anaemia?

bump38 · 19/04/2015 17:25

I'm 38 yo and this is my first pregnancy, I'm 21 weeks and I've been shattered since the beginning. I was made redundant last year so by the time I went looking for work we found out I was pregnant so I haven't worked at all(not many perm jobs out there for preggers people!). My doctor says all my bloods are normal and that its just a side effect of pregnancy. The only thing I've found that works is a we bit exercise, healthy eating and a nap every day. Good luck I know how exhausting it is !

I had my bloods done around 12 weeks scan, iron came back as 12 - low end of normal. I did have a uti for a while and took antibiotics for that, wondering if it's come back. Just feel like a bomb has gone off in my head! Moments of normality but otherwise just zonked. First trimester was a nightmare but I expected it and then lifted around 13 weeks and started to feel ok again.... Argh not sure if I can cope with work when I feel like this!

Its exhausting. Sympathies.

I'm not getting any work done this time and dh is doing basically everything from 5pm. And I nap all afternoon on weekends and sometimes while 3yo plays at least dd2 still naps too..

PenguinTuxedo · 19/04/2015 19:57

I'd get your bloods done again, as your levels may have dropped in the meantime.

Notamumyet81 · 19/04/2015 20:27

I second getting your bloods done again. I was 11.6 at the booking in appointment, but I knew they were going down as I was getting out of breath just putting my hair up (lifting arms above my head). I requested to get blood checked again at 16 week appointment and it had gone down to 10. On 3 iron tablets a day now.

I think it's reasonable just to be shattered anyway though, especially when working full time, making a new human, looking after a 7 year old and not sleeping well. I'm 20 weeks and also finding work difficult - my job is also demanding, not physically but mentally. I'm fine with simple tasks but having massive difficulty focussing on the more complex parts of my jobs.

Hope you feel a bit better soon. Are you able to finish up early on maternity leave? I'm hoping to go by 32 weeks ...

ovumahead · 19/04/2015 20:51

Thanks all... I can go in mat leave whenever I want to, but am reluctant to go too early as will lose time after with the baby. But the way things are going now, I might not have a choice!

And yes excellent point about getting bloods done again - I've noticed I'm getting breathless from doing sod all. Heart races after waddling up the stairs...

Sounds like you could be anaemic then...All classic symptoms!
